Well, I have my place rented and will be in STT on Thursday. I will spend a few days looking for a vehicle and getting my arms around everything.

A couple things that were a bit amazing...
1. I absolutely need internet access for my business and contacted viaccess.net three days ago via their website to get internet service. Gave em my credit card.. They already charged it.. The site said they will call me back imediately with the login instructions.

AMAZING! Nobody has called back and when you call them they apparently have one employee that is never there and she does not return calls. Whoda thunk it! I have AOL but I believe you have to use the 800# which is surcharged.

2. My other runin with viaccess.net is to find out about DSL. I have been calling them for 10 days (same person as again it appears they have ONE employee). LOL

She yas yet to call me back on that issue.

Finally, I need a second land phone line. Does anybody know how long that takes to get?

Thank you very much for your help and I really am looking forward to a great lifestyle. I never should have left St. John when I did. You live and learn.

Posted somewhere else on this site is info about the ISP I plan to have once my first month with Earthlink concludes: surfgreat.net it's called and yes they have a local access number and charge only $12.50 per month.

Absolutely do NOT recommend and would NEVER have viaccess...sorry, didn't mean to "shout".....but your experience is not all that uncommon and their actual server reliability is even worse, if you can imagine that......and if you need it for business, as I eventually will.......no thank you.

Hello,

I think AOL has a local access number... just went on AOL and did a search for 340 area code and it pulled up a 774 local number.

Your second phone line depends on whether there is a line already there to the house... the only experience I had with getting a 2nd line - it took a little over 3 weeks. But situations might be different and you might get yours sooner...

There was a recent thread about dial up by Onika who was looking for a new provider, if she is out there maybe she can share who she went with and who quickly she got service. Onika???

All the best.

I couldn't help but laugh when, after reading of all your frustrations with something as simple as getting an internet provider, you are "looking forward to a great lifestyle" (or something to that effect) I lived on STX for 7 years and found almost everything that involved dealing with businesses or the government there was at least that frustrating! I'll stay here in Florida, thank you very much.
