Thrift stores
For Dollar Stores.. there are at least 3 that I know of.
1. In Pueblo, Orange Grove. Between the chinese place and the Block Busters - Nigel's 123 store.
2. In Sunny Isle, it used to be Banana's and now its Nigel's 123 Store right next door to Theater entrance.
3. Mr. Dollar, Sunny Isle ... right next to Banco Popular.
I think Mr. Dollar has a store out West in the shopping Mall and I think there is another "dollar store" in the La Reine shopping mall .
I sometimes just go check out these places for the fun of it and I have to tell you I've found some good things between all the crappy stuff. Shopping on this island is an adventure... enjoy it!
Curious as to what might be considered good finds at consignment shops in STX. I am all about downsizing lately, some items never used and still with tags. I just re-opened up the donation bags I was ready to drop off and took out some special things and am thinking of bringing them down in a few weeks. Would there be interest in designer bags and wrist wallets - Coach, Prada, Dooney & Bourke, Aigner? Some barely worn after five pieces - dresses, long skirts. Liz Claiborne jeans and shorts. Or would there be more interest in housewares and linens?
Both. I'd bring them down if I were you.
The bags/wrist wallets sound like Ebay items to me. You should sell them there for top $ or they are the perfect item for Cabana Girl., same with dresses/skirts.
The clothes at the thrift stores (not consignment like Cabana Girl, but non profit thrift stores that benefit either Animal Shelter or Women's Coalition) tend to be sold dirt cheap - like between $1.00 and $5.00. If you have something nice, Cabana Girl is the place to take it. She gets good money for good stuff. If you want to donate the funds, you can just tell Lori (that's the owner) that you want her to sell it and give your percentage to the shelter. I believe after 60 days at Cabana Girl the clothing item either gets returned to you if it hasn't sold, or it gets donated by Cabana Girl to the animal shelter. WIN WIN WIN.
Housewares tend to be more the thrift store item here. They sell fast and are priced at typical garage sale prices. Linens in good shape fly out of the flea market/thrift stores here. Same for towels, decorative pillows, etc.
Used things that are unique are "treasures" here because remember we don't have the abundance of stores and not a lot of variety like in the US. We also don't have a lot of craft stores... so the flea market is the perfect place to find "small projects". Plus, supporting our non profits by donating usable items and knowing you are helping the island is a good feeling!
I agree with Trade, bring them down with you - as long as it doesn't cost you more to ship them down than they will sell for.
Somebody was asking me about thrift stores the other day, and I just learned that CeCe's Closet (the Family Resource Center secondhand shop on STT) has unfortunately closed its doors. More info on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ceces-Closet/163263153739467
I love love love the no-flea boutique! I've spent a good chunk of change there and have gotten awesome deals and some funky cool stuff. Best part is that it goes to the humane society which I always love to support. KUDOS to the ladies volunteering there, it's a madhouse sometimes and I believe it's a thankless job. So THANK YOU if you're on this board. I think they are beginning to know my face, I'm there every week....sometimes twice. And I think I might be the only patient one during check out LOL!
isnt the one in gallows bay called rummage something? hard to find open.
i am suprised with people leaving not more good yard sales.
i will have one as soon as i can get things together.
