But being in the right does not make them any less hurt or dead.
But educating newbies regarding the dangers here may prevent future casualties.
These two people died a horrible death and people are bickering on this board.
smh
If it weren't for the bickering, very few of us would come here as often.
This is ridiculous. A simple warning about the risks of mopeds on these islands extrapolates into a rant about what people are "allowed" to do, and Constitutional rights? Yes, everyone has the right to weigh legal risks and accept and live within their comfort level. Nobody I've seen so far has questioned that. And everyone is entitled to an opinion.
People coming to this forum have a right to know that the roads are pot-holed, gravelly, ultra-curvy and hilly in places, and we have our fair share of aggressive drivers. They also need to know, which hasn't been mentioned here, that our hospitals are often not equipped to handle many of the most severe trauma situations, and precious time can be lost airlifting them to PR and Florida.
To get carried away with hamburgers and cancer and personal freedoms belongs under the Coconut Tree, as it doesn't help anyone thinking of moving here. And IMHO, it is quite disrespectful to the two who died to go off on that tangent.
(tu)
As a bike rider, I take very personally any attempt to put blame of any kind on the riders as an attack on my personal choices. And I am being civil instead of replying to a few idiots who can't shut the hell up.

Again, nobody here has blamed the riders. And ad hominem attacks are not civil.

Admonishing a dead driver for their choice is not blaming? SMDH.

I can't fathom where you're getting this from or why you're taking it so personally. The only point that's been made is the constantly repeated one that relying on a scooter/moped here as a regular mode of transportation is infinitely more dangerous than relying on a car. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure that out and that's ALL that's been said aside from one poster's rather incomprehensible rant.
Yes, you will never understand. And I won't waste my time explaining.

Thank you on both counts.

Condescend much?

No, it isn't. Consulting a dictionary might help you figure out how you're misusing these words, and misinterpreting others' statements.

Blah-blah-blah. Yawn.
What is eveyone's opinion of using a unicycle since 2 wheels is so hotly debated?
Roller Skates/Blades??? ;););) *-)
Gas powered skateboard?
How about walking? - maybe not (researched using prior posters choice of news service...)

These people probably wouldn't have died if they had been in a car.
To quote the second post in this thread...
"It may be a cheap mode of transportation but is it worth your life or that of your loved one?
Buy a darned car."
Trying to discuss this topic is like playing chess with a pigeon. I could be a master chess player, but the pigeon will just knock over all the pieces, shit on the board, and then strut around like they won the game.

Came across this little tidbit.

I don't usually read this site but came across it on Facebook.
Thanks for the update. I keep checking to see any further news on the Consortium and other news sites but to no avail. Does anybody on here from STX know anything about the couple now that we have their names?
I didn't know them. However the vi free press has it wrong they were not traveling west, they were traveling east. You can see the police orange marks on the highway and also the long skid mark from the truck that hit them and veered to the right afterwards. So very sad that they lost their lives this way.
Gumbs should be charged with Vehicular Homicide but will likely get the usual slap on the wrist.

First, I would want to know the facts:
1) were the tail-lights working on the moped (it was night time)
2) what speed was the moped travelling (it is a posted 55Mph zone)
3) was the moped driver impaired, drunk or stoned?
4) what was Gumbs side of the story?

1. Well that may be hard to tell now that it was smashed from behind.
2. Do mopeds have "black boxes" like commercial airliners?
3. I'm sure that will be tested but still doesn't excuse a rear end accident
4. That is the only side of the story you will get because the other two are in pine boxes
