Thinking about moving to the islands
Exit:.....thank you....that's the point I was trying to make.
I did not mean to start a problem. The island is not big enough that you can isolate your self. If it were 2K square miles and there were one or two areas to stay away from, that's different. Yes you can be in the right place at the wrong time anywhere. Like the tourists on the safari bus in July. Very unfortunate. However, They where there for a few hours while their ship was in. When you live there 24/7 it can find you even if you use common sense. And yes I agree, what would you all be doing there if it were so dangerous. I just think the subject is avoided so people are not turned off. As far as stats. not published, how did I find out? I'm 1600 miles away and I'm aware of what's going on. I would rather have found out months ago before I got all pumped up about the move. Now I'm more turned off because I feel it was hidden from me.
I feel that once you remove the "drug trade related homicides" the remaining number of homicides (if any) are low...am I wrong?
Then filter out drug trade related homicides for other areas too. I guess central Mexico would be pretty safe if you did that.
Crime is a problem. And it happens more than just a "little bit more" here in STT. But there is one thing you can do to avoid it. Don't be in a place were you should not be. Now there will cases were you are in the right place, but at the wrong time. But be aware of your surroundings.
Yeah, that 14 year old tourist girl who was killed by random gunfire should have told her parents that riding a safari bus outside of Coki beach was a place they should not have been.
