Thinking about moving to St. Thomas
Hi everyone!!! I am currently thinking about moving to St. Thomas after I graduate college with a degree in finance and management. However I have had difficulty online looking for jobs. I am guessing as in all cases it is easier tofind something when you are living on the island, but was wondering if anyone had any suggesstions. I have skill sets from my school experience with finance, tons of lawn maintenance experience, and some catering, sales and bartending experience as well and would be willing to work doing any of those types of occupations. Can an entry level employee, resort, or restraurant/bar employee make an affordable living there? I do not need much; just enough for rent, food, and a little spending cash. I really want to experience something different, and in a warm place at that. I have been living in Montana in USA all my life and I believe that is it is a place that would love to live and experience. If anyone has any suggestions or tips, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Scott
If you come down for a visit, try applying at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef. Get a good resume together. You'd have a better chance applying there with your experience. You probably will continue to have bad luck applying from off-island but before you come down, send your resume with a cover letter stating you will be here from (whatever your visit dates are) and would like to apply in person. You could naturally do that with the other resorts but many people on-island get their start there because it's the largest resort. Good luck.
Hey Scott,
I myself graduated last summer and vacationed with my family in STX as a graduation trip. I have been there several times and love it a little more every time I go. I am moving there is summer because I have spent my whole life in Los Angeles and want to get a way for away for a while and the VI is far enough but not too far.
I have been having the same problems trying to find a job. I have a BS in Economics and Political Science. I know that during the winter months they have a lot of seasonal work. As of right now I am applying to getting a teaching position in STX. From what I hear, they are always looking for new graduates to teach. you might want to check the USVI Department of Education website out.
Also I have found the Settler's handbook decent. Not the most information but more than what's available on the internet. Well Let me know if you find any more info.
