We are looking at Wimpy's in Myrtle!

Wimpy's is a great place(tu) If you buy it are you going to keep the Monday Night Exotic Entertainers Appreciation special8-)
Having lived in both places and also having some friends who own bars/restaurants, I think you will find owning and operating a bar in Myrtle a little less challenging then St. Thomas. Your toughest job will be having enough staff and beer on hand for the Bike Weeks.

Wow! I thought that you were given some very sage advice- don't buy anything sight unseen, find out about the business climate first hand, know what you are getting into. And that information you considered that to be negative. Well, I learn something new from this board everyday. 🙂

EE, I got the impression it was the other threads here, not this one.

Trade, I thought the same thing... almost posted that last night but thought I'd wait to see if I was the only one. I'd love to see a little more feedback on that from beer... might lead to a curious discussion...

My husband and I are thinking about buying a bar on the island. I have read this site from top to bottom and understand the cost of living, but want real people' s opinion of living in paradise. Are there many "local" bar's or do they all cater to the tourist industry?

After reading this site from top to bottom, why go on and exclaim this, then come back and reply that what they read in the first place made them go somewhere else....

I wondered about this thread from the beginning. If beer read the forum from top to bottom and STILL wants "real people's opinions", well I just don't know what she was looking for. Apparently she wasn't looking for what she found! I assume she is not following this thread anymore. Probably moved on to a Myrtle Beach forum, but good luck to her anyway.

Off Island....What is Monday Night Exotic Entertainers Appreciation? Is it what it sounds like?:-o:@)

Who cares if he didn't read all the threads first? I probably read the first 20 pages of threads here before I posted thinking I read a good deal but found WAAAY more relevant information in the weeks after.

beerinparadise, what did your decision have to do with? Crime? Utility costs?

Juanita,

Wimpys is kind enough to extend drink specials and no cover charge to all those hard working exotic dancers here in Myrtle Beach, of which we have a ton. I have a hunch that from a marketing perspective it also does not hurt business on a slow Monday night for someone who picks up the ad and gets a visual of a bunch of dancers hanging out on their night off who they can go buy a drink for, to show their appreciation 😉

ExitZero - you mean like when Joe & Vic found Cane Bay Beach Bar online on eBay and bought it from my husband's ex-wife? That did indeed turn into a soap opera and then some.

And there have been several other new bar/restaurant owners on STX the past couple years who found their new biz on the MLS and really had no idea what they were getting into but insisted they knew how to run a restaurant/bar and ignored any information offered about local pitfalls. Most, if not all, of those new owners have already thrown in the towel.

The Norman Paperman Syndrome is alive and well in the islands, mon.
