Things visitors hear
I overheard some visitors on the ferry today pointing out Little St James and telling other visitors that it was "Johnny Depp's island." Evidently someone on a day trip told them this.
It used to be the taxi drivers who pointed out "Michael Jordan's house." I guess this is the new generation...
Why do taxi drivers do this? I hopped a safari filled with tourists to get to my car when it was being fixed once & couldn't believe the misinformation he was spouting over his speakers.
The little ferry boat that runs from the Marriott to Charlotte Amalie is quite entertaining. According to those 'Captains' they have a whole slew of famous people living in the hills. They wouldn't make as much in tips if they explained that the big house on the hill is owned by a businessman who owns grocery stores on the island.
The truth is this: Many celebrities do own homes on St. Barts. Johnny Depp and Nicholas Cage were reported to have purchased their own islands in the Bahamas.

lol I heard the Michael Jordan one....
I have a friend who looks a lot like Bill Murray. (We both live here on St. Thomas). There is a day sail captain who sails by his home and tells the tourists on his day sail that they are sailing by Bill Murray's vacation home. There is a taxi drive (Real Deal) who has worked hard to get courses at UVI for taxi drivers and certification for this type of information so the info the drivers give out is correct. I think about 12 drivers passed the course and received certification and they are continuing so tourists can look for a driver who is certified.
ha ha that is so funny, i can see the tourists quickly taking snapshots of these hillside villas - just like i probably would, and couldnt wait when i got back home and was showing the pictures, "yes, and that's bill murray's vacation home".... i love to laugh marc
