The Castle
I see that the Castle is up for sale. Anyone got a spare $15m? It's seems to be an amazing 102 acre piece of land, but personally, I think the house is a real monstrosity, and there are scant few interior pictures on the sales literature to make much of an impact.
So, do you love it or hate it?
Can you attach the site address?
Not a bad price for the following:
The Castle commands a private, secure hilltop setting, surrounded by 102 acres of prime St Croix real estate. Adjacent to the St Croix Yacht Club, this property has 3 acres of beachfront land, half acre marina site, 8 acre commercial parcel (former university lab),and over 90 acres of pristine valley and hillside leading up to and surrounding ''The Castle"
Surprised that the list agent is from STT.

Wow. Can buy the Palms hotel for less than a third of that price.
Thanks for the post Trixie.
For some reason, it dosent appear to be as large on the inside as I imagined.
Can't imagine the upkeep on the place.
Great defensible position up there though.
When the zombie apocalypse hits, that's definitely where I'm shacking up : )

It will never sell for 15 million. Asking isn't getting. I bet it sells for less than half that price.

The land is wonderful................ and I agree it's absolutely zombie fighting territory up there.
Is it seen as a valued landmark? I can just see someone buying it and perhaps tearing down the house, or fully redesigning the exterior of the home. It's very taste specific
There are more pictures of the interior here, but it only showcases the dining/living and 1 bedroom: http://www.flexmls.com/share/cB2o/13NorthSlobEB00820
Here's a series of video of the interior: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCW4gzKNfVk

There is only one bedroom on the main level of the castle. and as shown in rotor's photo, the interior used tt be furnished (or over-furnished) with lots of items...all of that has been removed. One of the first things I noticed my first time there was the ceramic tile covering the garage floor...which was used as a garage...
thank you, i thought it was something else

I have some friends that want to come down in March and are looking for something high end to rent. I emailed the realtor to see if the estate would consider renting it for a couple weeks. As you can imagine I've been ignored lol.
If it's not furnished as rmb2830 said it wouldn't seem like an option to rent for a couple of weeks.
Just from the videos and MLS report it wouldn't be doable as a vacation rental property since its not furnished nor move in ready condition with all the bells and whistles that a high end rental would normally have.
I was surprised to see that a STT Realtor had the listing instead of one from STX. I know the Realtor and he's very good at his job and generally very responsive. Maybe he thought it was a scam inquiry given that it's not at all set up to be inhabited as a vacation rental given the pics on MLS.
I'm sure you can find something gorgeous and perfect for your friends,
janeinstx. Check with a local STX Realtor or one of the many vacation rental sites, vrbo, flipkey, homeaway, airbnb, etc.

Because the MLS report that I viewed listed Peter Briggs/John Foster Real Estate.
They may have a co listing situation as I've done in the past to get more exposure for the seller.
The realtor web sites that I've looked at all have MLS listings with the same note Provided as a courtesy of... I haven't figured out yet how to tell who actually has the listing from the web sites.

Honnie Edwards posted on Facebook a few days ago that Calabash Reality was proud to have the listing.
My experience... and I just went to four different realtor's websites to double check...When you go to a realtor's website and choose search the MLS listings... the result's table that appears includes a column that says "Listing Office"... and it either says Broker Reciprocity or the name of the realtor whose site you are on if the property is listed with them.
Regarding the castle and who has the listing... according to the websites of the two real estate agencies mentioned:
On John Foster Real Estate website, they are listed as the listing office, http://www.usvi-realestate.com/st-croix/north-slob-eb/16-1793.
On Calabash Real Estate website, they are listed as 'broker reciprocity... provided courtesy of". Coulnd't find a way to link right to the property on their site, so you'd have to search for 10M+ St. Croix to narrow it down to the 1 choice. 🙂
There's something called Reciprocity which allows realtors to list other listings but must be stated as such on their websites.
Just curious: What's the likelihood this would be purchased by an investment group and turned into a resort or something?
That's a lot of land.
