The Avis
Yikes. Too bad The Avis is still in the 20th century. Can only get info from Daily News (not so great for St. Croix) or the VI Consortium.
Generally, I'm pretty happy with the 20th Century: I have a rotary dial phone, a really old car, and like to read real newspapers.
However, times like these make me realize it's good to have a local newspaper that can be online.
Well, Rena obviously has/had some problems (won't go into that for fear of a libel suit, but you can use your wildest imagination). That canceling of subscriptions without notice really flummoxed me. Couldn't get a refund until I got totally carried away. Kinda autocratic, paranoid, and generally no concern for her public. But well, see above.
Hope her son will bring The Avis into the 21st century. Can't even find Avis's number on line. Now, I kinda agree with Rena's thinking about the evils of online newspapers, but I think she can still conserve the Avis as a mostly real, on paper, newspaper, while still giving us a bit of on-line stuff. Her son seems like a cool, savvy guy who can keep the paper up to snuff, balancing tech with home-based real stuff.
Go St. Croix Avis! I've loved you for more than 40 years.
What's a rotary dial phone?:D
There is also stcroixsource.com. No 20th century there.
Do you have a phone number for the Consortium? I'd like to contact them regarding the horrible behavior of the Crusan children on the Royal Caribbean mercy ship. It was appalling to say the least. San Juan, STT and STJ children were great. I was embarrassed by the destructive behavior of not only Cruzan children but the Mothers demands to the employees of the ship and let's hope they never need another rescue because I am not sure after their behavior they'd come rescue anyone from STX ever again. It was bad and Royal Caribbean rolled out the red carpet for us. I was on the cruise and observed much of their behavior and heard details I didn't see from crew members. Shaking my head! I'm P..Oed!
Just like stealing a cellphone tower generator, some people don't understand the ramifications of their own selfish actions.

Don't get me started on the family I saw at Walmart last night where each of the 3 kids was separately driving around the store in an electric cart for the disabled as was the mother (who didn't appear to need it either)
Scubadoo, thank you! I left him a VM. Hopefully he will call me back.
Yes, a few will spoil things for many.

I heard they were complaining because they couldn't get a free ticket for a return trip...
It's spelled Crucian, by the way.
There was a teacher's thing at the casino held in the banquet room s. They got to stay at the hotel for free. The majority brought their children and proceeded to steal everything that wasn't nailed down. This was a few years ago. And the messiest people in the world. These are the educators educating your children.
It does not surprise me at all

I never heard that about getting free ticket back.
Yes, I've known that since I first moved to STX in 1995. Taking care of much business and a slip of my finger...wasn't thinking but, so glad you pointed that out newbie, er, iron head.
So were the individual children marked in a special way so you could tell which kid belonged to which island? Were they color coded?
My husband was on the cruise as well. He commented on what a great time all the little kids were having. But there were some obnoxious teenagers behaving like obnoxious teenagers do when left to their own devices. They weren't color coded either as to which island.

The floor I was on was from St. Croix. We were grouped by island. I know what floor the crew was talking about. Color coded...get a grip...I'm not like that!
Thank You rosesisland for calling out the bad behavior.
It seems that anyone that says anything is the bad person these days.

I called the Governor's office. They appreciated the info and said they issue an apology to Royal Caribbean. The person I spoke with seemed glad to be informed of the situation.
Thank You Gator....I was thinking the same thing! And I guess it's not possible for children to move about different floors....smh.

Smh at the labeling of Crucian children in this thread.....get a grip
Like I said, your always the bad person for pointing out bad behavior. Just shut up and deal with it. After all everyone is entitled to act any way they please, however respect is of the utmost importance.
Why don't these kids have any respect anymore? Gosh I have no idea.

We're you on the ship on the 7th floor for 4 days? The attendants were assigned sections and took care of the same people for four days and knew which island's children were on what floors! Did you talk to the attendants assigned to each section?
