Thanks for the great information.
I would like to say hello to everyone and stop hanging around in the shadows.
I have been lurking around on this message board for what seems to be forever. And, have visited STX several times in the past 5 years. Even got married there, at Sand Castle, September 2006.
Now, as life would have it, I really am ready to move there. Yes, I am ready to officially become a resident of STX. At least, mentally. SO . . . now, we are preparing the house to sell (in this awful market) and keeping our eye out for employment opportunities in STX.
I believe that the move will possibly take a year to accomplish.
We have started our journey, a new chapter in our lives. 🙂
Thanks again for all of the great information that you all have talked about over the years.

Good luck selling. I sold a home in Michigan and gave it away with all that was in it. Escaped..... And what job class would you be looking for? Are you thinking of renting your home up there? Is this move a jettison to any other part of your life? Will you retire here?
Thanks for coming in to chat. And when you get here you will hopefully look around and just watch before you start joining the many groups around the island
Hope to see you soon
Marlene
Good luck with your house sale. I bet the little statues of St. Joseph are selling like hotcakes. (In case you don't know, people bury the statues in their yard & it supposedly brings good luck selling a house.)
I buried him in the back facing where we were heading, then took him out and buried him in the front yard facing my front door. I bought him on Ebay and they had kits with 100 statues. Real estate agents give them away
It was a good thing we sold before the ground froze!
I don't think it works burying him in a snow mound. 🙂

Thanks for the well wishes.
Not escaping, just opening a new chapter. We (10 month old son, husband, and dog) live in metro Atlanta. I have been working as a corporate accountant for the past 14 years. (Actually did some work in Troy, MI for 1/2 the year in 2006.) The hubby is into construction. We are late-30's and no thoughts of retirement any time soon.
Also, thanks for the info about St. Joseph . . . I didn't know, nor had I ever heard!
We have really good friends that live in St. Croix. I have always wanted to live there, but have always been torn because of my closeness to my family. After talking it over with my parents and sisters they all thought that it was a great thing and know that we will do well on the island.
