Two thoughts on the article...

1) Anyone who puts flimsy rims like those shown in the article on a vehicle in the VI is a moron

2) Putting asphalt into potholes isn't fixing them.

That is all.

The rim itself isn't as much the problem as the low profile tire. Anyone who puts low profile tires like the one shown in the article on a vehicle in the VI is a moron.:D

Your both right, IMO.

The rim size dictates the low profile tire (that's a likely a 18-19" rim, there's no room left for tire at that point unless a lift is put on the vehicle).

It was done for aesthetics mostly I'm sure (though low profile tires make a huge difference in cornering performance... but around here I doubt that's the case). and that rim looks pretty cheap (bad metal) so the problem was compounded for sure.

All I know is that I'm looking forward to not having to dodge crater sized potholes every time I drive out out my driveway, the gaping pits and drop offs on the shoulders on dark, overgrown, ill lit roads without any discerning lines.

I've got to replace a rim on my truck because it has my tire doing a slow leak. I've taken it in to have the leak resolved at Rodriguez but every couple weeks, I've got to put air in the tire. Luckily, I have one of those small tire inflator gizmos. The roads are the pits, literally.

It is aesthetics and performance oriented. The larger diameter rim allows for a tire with a much shorter sidewall decreasing flex during hard cornering. The problem lies with the energy from bumps and potholes being transferred to the wheel and suspension causing damage and an overall rough ride. Now a real MORON lowers his car to within inches of the ground and then plasters a sticker on the back window that states: Be patient, I'm lowered. In other words I am an effin MORON so now when you are behind me on a rough road please don't mind if I inconvenience you by going 3mph. How about I place a sticker on the front of my Bronco that states: I hate MORONS so please be patient while I force you and your POS into a ditch! MORON!

I just pass them, half the time they are in the on comming traffic lane anyway, so I pass on the left (almost feels like the states!)

it's funny to me
at 18 I used to spend all my money on big block Pontiacs changed everything I could. At 50 I look far and wide to find for a good used factory Toyota rim.

Are we still talking about STX, or Pennsylvania?:D

Mahogany is getting worse by the day. We've now cut a trail off the road in the dirt that helps. It's absolutely absurd that "off roading" is WAY smoother than the road itself. I do LOL when I see chickens sleeping in the potholes.

You know the power of photography... lets get a shame campaign going 😉

A picture of that Jeep sans axle would have been the best, but chickens sleeping in potholes or showing a car driving off the road to avoid "the chained pot holes" or something could have some good impact.

we could always drop back to the old classics too:

I saw a Photoshopped pic, taken on STX, with a diver in full wetsuit with hood and scuba tank, emerging from a pothole.

What's shameful is the pothole patrol driving ahead of Biden's VIP entourage filling the potholes as they go. We should send some of those shame pictures to Biden.

I like the artful spray painting of certain anatomical body parts around the pothole to get their attention.

Not enough spray paint at HD to cover potholes on mohogany. I'll take pics asap and post so they can be shared and posted to all the senators facebooks pages. This is the road our tourist go down - use that angle lol.

For sure. Need a paint bucket and heavy nap roller cover. Perhaps a nice can of not too dark oops paint from HD.

Cruised Mahogany Road today up to Ridge 2 Reef, then Creque Dam road to Fredricksted. Roads dont seem any worse through there than last time I drove them.
However,
We were the first vehicle to use the newly graded road into Ridge 2 Reef. Followed the grader in this morning for, maybe a quarter mile. Much more civilized dirt road!

The regular paved roads all over the island are more pothole ridden then they used to be though. I keep thinking their waiting for Lime Tree Bay to get that new Asphalt Storage Facility up and built. But I guess it's all moot if the government goes bankrupt in a few days...

Someone painted around a couple craters, in fluorescent pink, on the road between 4 Corners and the gas station (STT), labeled them MAPPHOLES. They were filled it shortly thereafter. We could start a trend and pissed Mapp off in the process. Win, win!

Gotta stick with the pink tho, that's just perfect... makes it so much better.

I spray painted the holes in my neighborhood so my husband would see them when he is driving my vehicle. It really helped him see the holes. I could care less if he hits them in his Jeep, though.
