Terra Cotta Tile Refinishing

Anyone know how to refinish terra cotta tiles? My floor is pretty worn/scratched and needs restoration. I'd rather try to restore than re-tile.

Since tile flooring is common in the VIs, I'm sure someone has come across a method to restore them.
