Termits!

So, I was just informed 2 days ago of termite trails on my home in STX. I have Oliver's exterminating on a pest control contract and they researched this morning and there are a few mud trails on the side of my home, in my grape tree, and most likely in the ground. They have proposed a solution, but I'm not sure if the cost is reasonable and was hoping that someone that had this done previously could chime in. They want $550 to dig holes and pour Termidor by trenching, drilling and rodding. I know that I need this done, but does this price seem right or is it a little high due to me being off island? Thanks for your feedback. Or any other suggestions?

Sounds about right. Don't know the size of your house but I paid $650 to Terminix for the same procedure on a duplex, with a 10 year warranty. But that was 15 years ago.

Actually, it's a good price as long if your trails are active and if they warranty their work for more than a year.

You might wish to call around for competitive rates, warranty and follow up services that's provided for the price. Ask questions.

For termite infested trees, they can just inject the main trail which worker termites will carry back to nest. Doesn't cost that much

For a wooden frame home/subterranean termites, I'd absolutely go with trenching, tho I had it done many years ago for a concrete structure and had no further issues.

Maybe others can chime in with their experiences.

Concrete walled home, with wood roof. Apartment below. I had termites in Rhode Island and it was about 350, so I wasn't sure. They will provide a one year warranty. I won't go with Terminex as I had a contract with them that they never fulfilled, so I cancelled it and just switched to Oliver.

I don't know if Carl is still working with Teminix since he transferred to STX but he was a good, follow up on details guy.
Good luck.

Alana,

Karl IS still with Terminix over here on STX! He was just at our house a couple of weeks ago doing a dry wood termite treatment for our 2 year old kitchen cabinets (:-(
He knows what he is talking about and is good at follow up (A LOT to be said about that!!).

Well there service to me wasn't very good because I had terminex signed to a contract back in March, I had to constantly call to get my initial service which eventually happened in May, then had to call and email in both June and July several times and they never came out, so I got with Olivers. So far they have been very prompt and responded to my needs. I just wanted to make sure the amount seemed about right, since I'm off island and not sure what the typical charge would be.

I don't think that the price they are offering is right. That is too expensive. Last month, my friend got the termites exterminated from her room with the help of the exterminator Folsom team, with an affordable price. Just ask your exterminator of the varying charges and hire according to your comfort zone.

You can buy your own treatment chemical for under $100. Just mix with water and pour in the trench you dig around the perimeter. They ship by USPS.

You are not in the VI... or at least that pest control company is not. Stateside prices do not apply here. Period.

AandA2VI is absolutely correct. I could have done this in the states for 1/2 the price easily. Part of the island experience. lol
