Temp places to stay and a quick question!
Good Afternoon!!
I was wondering where a good place to stay temporarily (Besides a pricey hotel) would be while we secure jobs and an apartment. I have read all through this site, and it has been most helpful, but looking for personal experience and advice. We have contacted realtors and some landlords about apartments but don't want to do anything until we see the places for ourselves first!
Also, we were wondering what to wear to an interview down there for hospitality jobs, same as here? We have been wearing suits to our interviews here in D.C., figured it was the same down there but just asking!
Thank you so much in advance, and have a wonderful day 🙂
Crystal Palace is an excellent place to stay if Ronnie has space available. He's an excellent host and has helped many, many newcomers find their way around.

Leave the suits at home. The only people who wear suits here are politicians and bankers. A nice dress shirt and a comfortable pair of khakis are more than sufficient.
which island are you staying on?
Check www.flipkey.com or www.vrbo.com for vacation rentals.
Usually good prices are available in Sept. since it is off season and pictures of rentals are available as well as reviews of past guests..
Buy travel insurance since we are at the height of hurricane season in Sept., then you are covered if something occurs.
Doubt you'll need a suit but dress shirt, nice slacks and tie are good to wear if you are seeking Management Positions.
If you are just looking for a job as waitress, bartender, etc. casual attire, clean and neat looking is fine.
You'll need to rent a car to get around and see where possible long term rentals are located as well as to get to interviews, gorcery shop,
go to beach, etc.
Good Luck.

From previous posts, STT.
Agree re clothing for interviews/applications. Will add - be casual, but cover up. No flipflops, short shorts (even nice, longer shorts are ok for most jobs) or skimpy tops.
And don't bring your spouse, parents or kids.
Rule of thumb for interviews: dress for the interview like your (potential) boss would dress for work. If your (hopefully new) boss wears a suit to business meetings, then wear a suit. A suit for hospitality jobs in the VI is over kill. Most GMs dress nicely--one or two levels below a suit for business meetings. No jeans, no shorts, long sleaves, tucked, belted (no sagg), proper foot wear, good grooming. Light weight slacks and shirts with buttons for men. Laddies nice dress or co-ordinated top and skirt (or lightwieght pressed trouser--no chinos), no speggeti straps, no halters, no strapless, make sure your shoulders and mid section are covered, above knee is fine, no mirco mini, sensible shoes, no 4" heels, light make-up. Bring a three copies of your resume. Hand them a resume (even if the have one) as soon as you sit down, bring a note pad and a pen, take notes. Smile. Listen. Sit up straight. Don't fidgit. Be yourself. Ask for the job. If they deffer, ask when they'll be making a deicsion. Send a follow-up email or note. Good Luck.
Ps. try to cover tats, remove piercings. use your very best manners.

No worries - these days I sometimes forget where I'm either from or going to ...

Thank you all so much for the great help!! We are coming down October 9th it looks like, and job hunting is #1 prority. See you all soon!
I've been coming down for many years now since I moved back to the states to take care of elderly parents. I usually get a good place through VRBO.com. I'm coming down first week in Oct to secure a place to lease...long term. I've stayed at Colony Cove several times and have found that the people that rent out their condos there always give a fair price. The location is great and there is security there as well. I've stayed many different places on STX and always have had a good experience. We will be staying at Colony Cove again this time, but, with a different landlord than we had last Dec-Jan. I like the area that is close to Christiansted for some reason.
Yes, ST. Thomas sorry. I'll look into vrbo.com and flipkey.com for sure thank you. And thank you all for such great advice for the interviews and job hunting as well. It is most appreciated!

Hurricane season extends until the end of Nov. so even if it costs a little extra money, travel insurance is very good to have.
Good luck in job hunting and relocating.
I've also recently heard about AirBNB.com..... I used VRBO.com when I moved down though.
