teaching @ CENTRAL HIGH ST CROIX
ok stop laughing all you locals. we are not that stupid, been to stx 12/14 times spent months at a time ther,e, have GREAT friends from all walks of live read the local paper, settlers handbook etc etc inall honestly the best advice we have gotten from our friends some who have ben there over 30 years and raised ther kids there.. to get to the point we have both been offered 2 spc ed posistions at central high. have friends who currently attend there, go 2 complex and good hope know therre is a great difference betqween 3.know conditions.. old school, violence,no materials, but would love the scoop from locals involved in teaching.. this would not be something weHAD to do to retiring instx since we have a decent retirrement, and already own property, but are plannig to move there permantally within the next couple of weeks my husband wants to teach, i wanted to persue other aves,., recdently became A CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER and nutrition technition, but my strength has always beeen with working with troubled ,behaviorally disturbed teens those of you directly in the trenches what do you think????allyour honesty will be apreciated
Linda: I would never laugh. I believe those who give to the VI will receive 10 fold. Special ed needs teachers, especially ones with experience and "the calling". That said, working in the education deprtment is frustrating, according to friends with experience. If you are going to be here, why not try? If you don't like it, by the end of your contract, I am sure you might find other areas where you would be needed! Best wishes for your move.
thanks for you encouragement!!!!
Last about 1 hr I have been reading loys of your writings. So, I thought I will like to write you about me. I am an adj. Asst prof. for few NYC Univ. for last 20 yrs in Physics & Math. I am in my mid 40's - I kind of want to what you & your husband doing. This time I want to see if I can buy as big piece of land I can with in $300,000. I am not sure what part of STX will be good for me & my wife. We want to move in about 7/10 yrs from now. Would you kindly give me some advice ?
#1 as everyone on this board will tell youyou need to spend a lot of time on the island before you decide if is for you.. iget the feeling you have not and it is not neccisarily the best place for real estate investments but i do think in the FAR future stx will be#2 just my opinion if i were going yo spend $ 300,000 i wouldn't spend it on land , you could buy a great house at that price and #3 its a pain to try to buid and bring supplies to the islands buiding could be a verY taxing proposistion.. iknow a great real estate agent and contractor on island if your interested , just curious have you been to stx and where are you from? best wishes and good luck to answer your other questions there is an extremely high demand on island for math and sci teachers can't gurantee undUR what conditions.. personaly we prefer the east end of the island drier AND LIKE THE NEIGHBORHOODS BETTER
