Teacher Protest in Front of STT Legislature
Are they striking today?
"Organized job action" LOL
This time I beat the published news reports. They did indeed strike as reported on viconsortium. Those of you moving here to teach should pay close attention.

Those on STX should pay attention and join the "process". Don't see it happening though. Just a lot of pissing and moaning as usual.
I'm certainly paying close attention but...I'm still coming to a high school near you. In for a penny in for a pound as they say. Who would want to miss this kind of action. It's a pay cut to come anyway but I'll balance that out somehow. I'd like to hope that it'll be straightened out before the next school year but I'm not that naive. I've never belonged to a union before. Should be interesting.
How fast people forget what happened the last time the teachers went on strike. Or why it ended.
I am watching, but I am still coming.
It doesn't sit well with me that the students lost a day of school but I absolutely understand the teachers' frustration. They've been dealing with the sad state of the schools, low pay levels and non/misappropriation of education funds for donkey's years and the straw that broke the camel's back was the governor's demand that they forgo the retroactive pay promised them years ago. It doesn't matter that Mapp backtracked ("he didn't really mean that" as though it wasn't absolutely clear exactly what he said and meant), it was a grossly insulting proposal. Teachers here bust their chops trying to educate and both they and the children they care for deserve so much better.
I'm not an organized labor/union fan but I think the teachers should go on strike and not come back until they get every penny promised previously and whats due for increases currently.
Virgin Islanders are notoriously apathetic and the government uses this to it advantage.
Its time for the teachers to stand up and make a stand.
How are the teachers going to pay bills if they strike for an extended period? There is no strike fund to help them.

I'll donate money to a strike fund.
