Tax Collector’s Office Extends Five Percent Early Payment Discount

The five percent early payment discount for the 2011 property taxes has been extended until April 8, the due date for the 2011 bills. Accordingly, the 2.5 percent discount period, which was originally from March 26 to April 8, will no longer be in effect, according to a press release issued Friday by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

The decision to extend the 5 percent discount period is prompted by various factors, which include closures for the Easter holidays and the overall economic circumstances of many Virgin Islands property owners. “Extending the five percent discount period allows more property owners the opportunity to save,” Lt. Gov. Gregory Francis said. “We are understanding of the challenges impacting our property owners and hope this extension encourages more of our tax payers to fulfill their payment obligation in a timely manner.”
Tax Collector’s Offices are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Payments can be made at the following locations:

St. John: Islandia Building
St. Thomas: Builders Emporium (collection box available)
St. Croix: 1105 King Street (Government House, Christiansted)
1131 King Street, Suite No. 101 (Christiansted)
Department of Finance, Sunny Isles (collection box available)
No. 1 Lagoon Street, Frederiksted (collection box available)
Property owners are encouraged to pay the 2011 tax bill by June 8 in order to avoid late payment fees.
The deadline for filing appeals with the Board of Tax Review regarding tax assessments is June 24.
