These Green Bags really work, well worth the price. I have only used the Fruit/veggie bags going to try the bread ones as well.

My Aunt sent me a package of them... I was actually shocked by how crisp my veggies were coming out of them. And everythng lasted longer, too. I sound like an informercials, but I Do love the bags. I gave several to my landlord as well.

It extends the shelf life of fruits/veggies. Food is expensive on the islands, so the little green bags keep some of the green in your pocket.

On the mainland, they are selling green storage containers that do that. I wonder if the idea came from these bags first. At any rate, my mum swears by the green containers as well.

Do you know the brand name of the green storage containers your Mom swears by? I love the bags but the containers would be even better and I have not been able to find any.

Not only is food expensive, but the "fresh" produce we receive is often a great deal past the point of what is "fresh" in stateside supermarkets. However, the store might be out of what you want if you don't buy it that day. So every extra day of preserving food becomes very important!

So tupperware and ziplocks don't do that?

Regular plastic containers trap the ethylene gas that the food is giving off, which the biggest factor that makes it spoil. The green bags allow the gas to escape while still keeping moisture in and protecting the food from air.

You can order on line go to web sites I posted. You can reuse the bags up to 10 times or until they start to smell funny. I don't know about the containers never used them. That information is on the web site.

I bought the green bags at a Bed, Bath, Beyond...and used one of their frequent 20% off coupons....they are also appearing as knock-offs already.

Green bags. A marketing opportunity? A market could put the green bags out so when you buy your produce it would be and stay as fresh as can be. This would eliminate putting the produce in a bag then purchasing bags and bagging the stuff again. Or pick up your bags first then just put the fruits and veggies directly into the bag.

I thought green bags was the reusable bags that substitute for the plastic ones. A lot of people are doing that now and it's a good feel good thing. Mike Walsh has created some interesting art with the subject being the cheap plastic grocery bags. Years ago I became aware of these insidious bags. I was wave riding with me son after school and the bush on the way into St. C's was covered with shopping bags clinging to the tan tan. For some reason that image stayed in my head and reappeared when I saw Mike's work. I've been interested in trying to work with them photographically. Hummm?
