Taking the Big Plunge!
Me and the wife will be in our new place July 1,2014, can't wait. Starting a new chapter in our lives as a Empty Nester, well kind of. Leaving Los Angeles for half the year and then returning back home for the other half. Hope to see some of you out there one day. Now just need to find a car.
Welcome to the Islands, which island will you be staying on? It sounds like you are looking for your next adventure. I would check Craigslist and also the VI Trader for some great deals. But make sure if you buy an island car, you have it checked out by a reputable mechanic BEFORE you shell out any money for it. The roads in the Islands are murder on cars. Now, if you take a fl;ight to Florida and Land in Ft. Lauderdale, you can buy a nice used car quite cheaper than on the island and just have it taken to the port for shipment.

Never a good idea to buy a rental car anywhere never mind here. You don't need a car that had 5,000 previous owners that didn't care how they drove it.
Tiberius: I have been happy with two vehicles from Budget. I think they do a good job with maintenence and they were under warranty.
East Ender, Hi. I was in the auto repair biz for 30+ years. I can honestly say I've never seen a rental car that was not beat on regardless of mileage. I'm glad you found a couple of good ones but warranty or not it depends on condition and how many times you want to take it for warranty repair. Like stated above. The islands are murder on cars and I agree. Congrats on your good fortune.

Wow, 5000 previous owners - that's an awful lot of title transfers.

Seriously? That's a metaphor for rental customers!
If each customer kept the car for one day, that would mean the car was in service for almost 12 years.

For Frigg sakes! All it means is that that car had a lot of different drivers that probably beat the crap out of it. Not literally 5000 drivers. Jeeeeeez.
Lol, I know. But it is fun to pull your chain. And I take your point to be careful when buying any used car, but especially a former rental.
