Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there are any swimming pools on St. Thomas, and if so, do any of them have diving boards? Is springboard diving at all popular on the island? If not, does anyone know if there are plans to start a springboard diving program? This is something I would love to start up if diving is not already on the island; if it is, I'd love to join whatever kind of organization they have as a coach. Thanks for the help!
Andrea

Sorry, just realized I should have been a little more specific...I am asking about public swimming pools, not a private pool that someone might have at their house. Thanks! 🙂

St. Thomas Swimming Association - I can't find the number but you can call Kathy at Montesorri School. 340-775-6360 and ask her. She is the spearhead of the organization.

Hello Andrea,

There isn't a public swimming pool on St. Thomas.... 🙂 we have the ocean.

There is one being constructed on the East End. Its been 'being constructed' for a while now.

Springboard diving - no. I am not aware of a program. Here is info. on swimming if you were interested.

On St. Croix there are swim teams: the Dolphins
St. Croix Swimming Association
(340) 719-7946

and Blue Marlins (340)277-2569

There is a VI Swimming Federation: http://www.visf.org/homepage.htm

Pamela provided the STT group's contact person. I have this number for Kathy (340)779-2500.

There is a program on St. John called Kats (Kids in the Sea) that does water safety, swimming, sailing. http://www.kidsandthesea.homestead.com/

There is another program called Marine Kids Korps. I don't know anything about it but you can call them for information. (340)776-5179.

The Special Olympics are here and I believe they having swimming.

Hope that helps.

Hi Andrea,
Funny you should mention swimming. I run my own swim business in the states. I teach private and group lessons all ages. I am looking at a job in the schools in PT but am wondering if I could pick up this on the side. let mw know if you find out anything else out.
Thanks Lynne

Years ago there were two public pools. One in Savan and one in Long Bay. They went the way of most all Government projects. They build stuff then don't maintain them!

Hi Ronnie,
Not trying to hijack this thread But, I thought I saw a swimming pool with a dive platform just outside of Redhook near the armory. Is that one of "those" pools .

That is the one Islander alluded to, the one that has been "under construction" for a while.

That one is waiting for some more funding to finish. That is a private concern, actually the VI Swimming Federation as mentioned before! I hear there are some construction deficiencies there as well.

The swimming pool outside Red Hook, next door to the armory has funding, and is promised to open by summer. The story I read in the newspaper talked about the original contractor not using the proper size pipes for the circulation of the water and that set back kept the pool from opening. New monies have been found and a new contractor has begun work completing the project. I believe I saw a July or August hoped for opening.

As to diving boards, I believe they are like start platforms for swimming competitions rather than diving boards....gee, I'll look when I drive by. Don't think I remember diving boards. LOL - I only pass it like 2 or 3 times a day!!!!!

Suposed to be THIS SUMMER - 2005. there has been work taking place....not this last month however.

No diving boards. I believe the low structure is a starter or coachs position as the pool is designed for swim competitions.

SUPPOSED to be this summer and BEING this summer are two different things! 😉

Yes, sadly, I have learned that is the TRUTH, all too well. Island BS time rather than complete the damn thing already! Just like the Red Hook ferry dock that WAS supposed to be done last fall and is fianlly getting some action.

And the parking lot behind the lilly pond and fruit stand and dump so that construction on the hill overlooking the ferry dock can get going on construction so that Marina Market can move to a brand new, bigger place.......etc.etc.etc.etc.

Sad part of island reality - but.............
