I have seen the advice to make sure to purchase a car that can be easily serviced on STX. Can anyone share recommendations for make and models for small SUVs or jeeps that you think are good quality (will be buying used) and that will be easy to service on island? Will appreciate your advice!

Also, another question.... I am planning to sell my current car here. But, I'm curious if anyone thinks I should bring it with me instead....

It's a 2008 Ford Escape with 170,000. It doesn't have any issues, but obviously is high mileage. It's VIN begins with 1, which I understand means it was manufactured in the US.

Thoughts on that??

I was going to suggest a Ford Escape. Very comfortable ride, easily maintained and fixed here.

I have a Fod Escape as one of our rides. Some things are easily fixed. Alternator, not so much. You need to split the axle or lift motor, or I guess cut through fire wall. I have done all the work on it myself.. Brakes, water pump, coolant reservoir, glass work. I have a model Escape that offers 4x4 which is nice on STT, especially my driveway when it rains. Toyota Rav4s are popular as well.

Im a big fan of Honda CR-V. Have had two, one in the states and bought one here. Ours here is a 97 and that ol girl takes hills better than my jeep commander! CRV transmissions never die. I'm a made in the USA kinda girl but honestly I think I'll own Hondas from now on. Toyota would work well here too.

The thing with repairs is that no one really has parts in stock. STT has a pretty good "auto zone" like place and STX has Napa but they rarely have what you need. I use rock auto for everything and then take the parts into the mechanic. Finding a good mechanic.... That's the tricky part. We still haven't found one I trust in STX.

Speaking of, need a second opinion for AC issue in my jeep. Been to the guy at gallows bay... Anyone else good that can look at my AC? Something in the dash that requires full removal and over 1k in labor. 🙁 and it's gonna be a HOT summer.

If anyone knows of a good repair place for my truck AC on STT, I'd be grateful for a recommendation.

Just need a charge or compressor? I still always like Aaron at Dr. A's. He always took good care of me and affordable.

Stay away from anything made or owned by Chrysler, which includes all late model Jeeps. Chrysler just sucks period.

I guess I'm the only person that hasn't had any abnormal problems with my 4 Chrysler vehicles.

I've never been a fan of Jeeps as I think they'e a REALLY uncomfortable ride. That said, I've become aware over the last year or so of several complaints from friends with later models of pesky mechanical issues.

Hopefully they'll fire Vanessa and all her minions and start over. She is the source of all the problems in the shop. She's great at pissing off the techs and complains she can't find good help.

I drive an MKX and get it serviced regularly at the Ford place, no problem. That's why I brought it here knowing I could get it easily serviced.

My fiance and I are moving to STX in September and as of now are planning on shipping our Nissan Rogue to the island. Does anyone know if this is a make/model that would be able to get servicing once we've got it there, or would we be better off selling it here and buying a different, American-made make/model?

No Nissan dealer here. the Honda dealership does Nissan servicing.

Nissans are sold on both STT and STX so they can be serviced here.
Toyota has good resale value.
Unless I have a vehicle that is still under warranty for a manufacturer, I wouldn't take it to be serviced by a dealership. I prefer using my mechanic who has taken care if all my vehicles for the last few decades.

Who sells Nissan on STX since the dealer went bankrupt a few years ago?

You don't have anyone that sells Nissan on STX?
A friend bought a new one on STX not too long ago.
Thought he purchased from dealer there.
What does Caribbean Auto Mart (SIAC's favorite place) sell?
