surfing?
How's the surf on STT vs ST CRX? I have found a few measly pics and videos...nothing too impressive. Just wondering if it's a rare phenomenon or something people do often there? Coming from Southern California I think I have been spoiled but would be happy just to have something to ride, even just on the log or stubby. Wondering if it's worth packing a board and which ones...
Thanks! 🙂
iposted a topic titled VI wave play a week or so ago scroll down and look for it. There have been other posts @ surfing use the search funtion to find them.
There are several breaks on STX some beach breaks and some outside reef breaks
this one is a reef break outside Teague Bay
Bring boards. They are$$$ here
There is an avid and active surfing community here in the VI and BVI -- plenty of surfing days - very rideable - some big days - bring a board. Most of the surf is on The Northside of the islands STT STX STJ Tortola etc but Puerto Rico is close and has some excellent breaks too.
My surfing days are behind me, but I surfed the frigid waters of Santa Cruz and the warm waters of Maui. The waves here I am told are a bit disappointing if you expect them to be like Hawaii. However on a good day they are as good as southern California and the water is much warmer. There is something to be said for warmer water. Right now the water in Santa Cruz is in the high 40's, about 10 degrees warmer in southern Cal. In the VI it is usually around 80, a little cooler in the winter.
BIG surf heading once again to STT and STX. I'll be checking Sprat Hall on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. If you have never seen the west swell, come check it out. Heck, grab a boogie or a surfboard and join us!!
We'll be outside at the reef off Teague Bay at porpoise patch with the chosen few.
that's a little paddle out, eh?
Anyone rent boards on STX? I've never seen them advertised. Would love to participate in the action when it hits.
Bernie
don't think so, but you can pick up a boogie board at kmart sometimes pretty cheap.

paddle out with an old windsurfer board, tow the board. it's about 1/2 or less mile out from Cramers, sometimes a small boat.
There has been a group of stand up paddlers that surfs out there for the last few months, old style Hawaiian
that's what I heard....West was nice but peaked at night and the wind came in from the south creating chop most of the time.I still spent 7 of the last 20 hours the water! Good times
the swell never developed out east, The s/SE wind must have knocked it down
