summer relocation

I am possibly being transferred to St. Thomas for work, moving sometime late summer early fall. I was wondering what the job prospects are for my husband and how schooling will be for my son (10). My husband does sheet metal and/or HVAC as well as other general construction. I am a little nervous due to what everyone is saying is the high cost of living, and am afraid of our ability to make it comfortably on my wages alone. How are the public schools, should we look at private or religious school? (yet another expense). I know it will be a huge adjustment, but we are hoping for a simpler life with more time to spend together than what we are able to have on the mainland due to work schedules (never all home at the same time).
I have been told that the West end of the island is quieter and that the weather is a little more temperate is this true?
Any advise on starting out short/long term rentals, possible employment for my husband, and/or any other tips would be appreciated.

Hi Chrissy and welcome! I want to make two comments. The west end is quiet (now) but it is also fairly removed from services like schools, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. And there seems to be plenty of work for skilled craftsmen , which is why the west won't be quiet much longer.
