Hey everyone-

Been reading the posts for a while and havent seen much on employment opportunities in STT during the summer. Is there anything for a college guy from D.C. to get into? I'll be down there June 24 - August 12... I was thinking of working at a resort, restaurant, or store.

Any suggestions on where to look?!? Any ideas?

Thanks for your help! 😎

For those types of jobs you really have to be on island to get them. Most people won't even consider you until you are physically in front of them! Some of the larger resorts hire from the states but whether they'd do it for temporary jobs, I'm not sure. Probably not, unless for a specific internship.
You should be able to get something this summer if you are willing to work hard and especially if you have experience. Come down with some cushion money (enough to last your stay in case the job hunt doesn't pan out) and network once you're here (basically go to places you would like to work and ask if there are any openings). Check out career.vi for some opportunities with larger resorts or companies.

I think I'd have to disagree with STXem, at least for St. Thomas. People who have lived here for a long time are really struggling to find ANY kind of work & I think it's going to get a lot worse. You might luck out but be prepared to either eke it out with what $$ you bring or leave early.

Maybe St Thomas is hurting more than STX. Here, there is so much turnaround in the restaurants that you can always find something somewhere...

That's possible but I know several people who can't even get ANY kind of job doing anything. You never know though, DCsummer might luck out.

Stt is more dependent on tourism and that has been way down. I really do think stx is doing better, but the hovensa layoff are worrisome. We're just starting to see the fallout from that. As always this summer will be the real test. If the small businesses start shutting down left and right then we're in big trouble

You might also consider that many Virgin Islanders who attend college in the states and come home for the summer are preferentially hired for summer jobs.
