Suggestions for my Georgian guests on STX
One of my top students is planning to visit me this summer for a week or two, probably in July, from the Republic of Georgia (in the Caucasus Region). She has her visa and will visit her mother in New York before coming to STX. Her mother may accompany her.
I'd like Maria to have wonderful memories to take back to Georgia for her senior year and am looking for suggestions, including, but not limited to:
--Beachcombing
--Dining
--Diving
--Fishing
--Hiking
--Kayaking
--Photographing
--Sailing
--Shopping
--Sightseeing
--Snorkeling
--Swimming
--Walking
If anyone knows of any young people who might like to meet Maria during her visit, please let me know.
Thanks!
Edward - finally retired to America's Paradise!
Hi Edward! I don't know if 30 is young enough, but if I have time (don't know my work schedule yet), I'd love to show her around! I'll be arriving July 3.
It would help to know what kinds of things she likes. Not knowing anything about her, and just basing this on what most of my friends would enjoy, here's what I'd do:
1. Point Udall, Jack and Isaac's Bays (a nice little hike, and good snorkeling here)
2. Annaly Bay
3. Sunset drinks on the west bank
4. Drive the circumference of the island
5. Sandy Point
6. Diving
7. Rainforest drive/hike
8. West end beaches (good snorkeling and lots of sea glass to pick up, if you're into that)
9. Trip to Buck Island
10. Christiansted for food, roaming around, a little shopping, people watching, etc.
I'm sure there are lots of other things I've left out, but that's a start!
A good start. (30 is a lot closer to her 20 than is my 73!)
I definitely want her to snorkel at Buck Island and take an intro to diving. I was planning to have her do an intro with Jon at SCUBA.
Let me know when you arrive.
Thanks!
STX has a great social scene. Eg: Live music at restaurants. I suggest bumping this post about 1 week before Maria's arrival, and then we can recommend some of the social events coming up.
Yes, please remind us. It's so far away, and I (and others, too, I'm sure) will have so much going on that I'll forget!
I agree with STXBob, post again later. Many bars/restaurants/other activities don't start to advertise until closer to the dates. When is the Alexander Hamilton Jump-up?
My kids always want to go to the Moko Jumbie show at Carambola on Friday nights. They also do the show at Hotel on the Cay (I think).
