i don't want to start a rumor, but according to CNN, STX is attempting to secede from the USVI. does anyone know if this is true or have any further info?

The forts on St. Croix have been regarrisoned. I just received a draft notice in the mail. From my apartment on a hill near Green Cay, I can see enemy ships approaching from St. Thomas.
Yeah, I heard that 3600 residents of St Croix signed a petition to become independent from St John/St Thomas. Can anyone living on St Croix verify this...and what would the advantages be?
Yes, I also saw CNN report that 3600 St Croix residents signed a petition to become an independent island...separate from St John & St Thomas. They would like to be their own separate US territory...like Puerto Rico. Can anyone living on St Croix verify the reason for this, and what the advantages would be?

This articles states that the rationale is that more federal funds would be allocated to St. Croix.
Enemy pleasure boats arriving from St Thomas?!? Arm Seaborne's planes with torpedos! Have the hair braiders make a net to protect the harbors! 😉
The primary rational is that STX generates the majority of the tax $$ and doesn't get an equitable return. I beleive the figure is 75% of the USVI tax base is on STX. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
I have seen 70 percent. Secession has actually been talked about off and on for decades.
I think it is a good, responsible idea. No revolution is necessary. St Croix is very different from St Thomas and has different needs and different goals.
The problem has always been that the USVI government has been dominated by the St thomas cruise industry and the crooked politicians who are on the take. St Croix has never been given it's fairshare of tax revenues.
No joke. This is a good idea.
Agrees from what I know.
Was just having some fun with the earlier post. 😉
Arrrrrrgh.
As I understand it. St. Croix does not bring in the greater amount of revenues. They perceive that they do. I may be wrong but this is the way it's told in St. Thomas/St. John. Property taxes are higher on this side. Their argument about the taxes from Hess, Cruzan and the Divi being more than what's collected on the other side is questionable. They get so many tax breaks. I would like to see the actual figures.

I merely said that I have seen 70 percent. I can't remember where and it may or may not be right. I will try to find the numbers.
