The last time that I tried I got one STX channel. They are infomercials almost all day and night. I think I got PBS but they have a weak signal and it was searching for signal most of the time.

Neither are HD.

What did you mean with the Roku/Fire comment ? ..... There are only 2-3 local stations and the antenna can't believe would pick up whatever is there in PR

roku/fire-you get a lot of free stations with them after you buy their boxes-not all that they offer is a subscription . you did not specify you wanted local stations. you just asked about free tv

Actually, they asked about receiving over the air free TV - with an antenna.

Can you get HBO and Lifetime (I like their movies) if you put up an HD antenna? What if you really wrap your rabbit ears good with aluminum foil?

Yes you can but you have to use HD aluminum foil on your rabbit ears. It's available on-line from the same store that sells cordless extension cords,

I don't know what you guys are reading, but explain to me who broadcasts over the air HBO that can be received in the VI? I have experimented with multiple OTA antennas on STX and I can tell you that you aren't going to get HBO or any cable station OTA.

OTA = OVER THE AIR. That means with a TV antenna, not cable or internet connected.

MOAR tinfoil.

Apparently my sarcasm was lost. I was simply making a joke out wanting local stations.. Like an antenna is picking anything else up

I don't think the HD antenna with tinfoiled rabbit ears will be anywhere near as effective as the traditional all-purpose tinfoil hat traditionally worn to deflect the mind infiltration techniques practiced by aliens. I see a new business venture in my future.

No need for the tinfoil anymore. Every quack out there is selling detoxes to get rid of all that ails you. I remember when my liver and kidneys were enough...

Sorry, I've been in this business a long time and unless someone is re-broadcasting HGTV (a cable channel) OTA there is no way that happened. Maybe you can ask them what channel number it was on and I'll give it a try.

After Hurricanes Hugo and Marilyn, no cable TV for a couple years but we picked up PBS and a couple of PR stations.
Don't know if you would pick up Channel 8/stx or 2/stt which are local stations. They got blown away at the time so don't know.

Nothing comes free anymore!

Before the high-gain directional antenna self destructed (cheap ass plastics - grrr) we managed to get PBS (multiple stations) ABC, NBC, and others. Never could get FOX which was a bugger. Now we can still get PBS with just the wire sticking up on the roof without an antenna - most of the time. That's all we need as watching channel 8 local news became too painful to experience on a consistent basis.

If the antenna hadn't self destructed I'd still be getting lots of stations. I just haven't bothered replacing it. PBS and streaming netflix is all I need.

A lot of the cheap plastics deteriorate rapidly in sunlight. After two years, one knock and it fell apart.
