According to the article in the VI Daily News, the robber was apparently not hit and also got away with the victims money.

For religious reasons, I do believe in non-violence, except in direct self-defense. If someone's pointing a gun at me and threatening to shoot, I think that is enough of a threat that I would be justified in reacting.
stephyjh,
What would your reaction be?:S
Just tell me I've only got a month or two to live, I would clean this rock up. They still haven't got the punks who killed Peter Des Jardins, I do not care if it was an accident those people need to die.
If they already have a weapon pointed at you,you are in deep sh!#. Never surrender, lay down and die or any of that crap, you have to have a mindset to survive the encounter. But if they do have one pointed at you and you don't have one pointed at them, that is what is referred to as being behind the power curve. FIGHT OR FLIGHT it is the only two options you have. Well there is a third option that I don't like and that is being a VICTIM.
Be aware of your surroundings and be ready to make some kind of choice. It's not going to get much better than that. Support firearms training, proper shot placement and the concealed carry permits. If you pull the trigger and Innocent people get hurt, you will be held accountable. If you follow the law and what it says, you should not have a problem. Most martial artist I know who have any credibility and are true bad asses won't even tell you they practice, you would never even guess it. The same holds true for the firearm, someone who is confident in their firearms skills damn sure won't flash it to prove a point,if they draw it, they have just a split second to decide if it will be used or not.
I could go on all night, about this subject. But after it is all said and done,it is an individual choice.
