so yesterday morning i hitched down to cane bay for breakfast and this really drunk young woman picked me up lol at 9am oh and she was crying and carrying on about how her BF had dumped her and she's been drunk all night and has to be at work at 3pm and she told me who the guy is and lol i work with him and yeah he is a jerk but is quite pleasant to look at LOL and since i don't know what to do with drunk crying young women at 9am i just patted her on the head and told her to forget about good looking white boys and to find herself a nice rasta and change her life,so i ate and hitched back a this guy picked me up and it was the preacher from the church i went to in the church story i wrote about a couple of months ago and i told him what a great sermon he gave and he said thanks and then i told him using the exact same words i used here when describing the whole thing you know about the shots and the crackers, lol well he looked at me and i thought "oh no" here comes the hellfire and damnation but he burst out into great belly laughs and told me that was hilarious, then he dropped me at the tree and went on his way to church

good day so far,so i had this table of 6 a few days back older crowd somewhere between 60 and death and they were carrying on about the pool at one of the condo's over on condo row and how green the water is and how they were so glad that they did'nt buy their condos there,oh and they were all so smug and righetous while they were telling me this in their cheap polyester hawaiian shirts and cheap pants, lol so i asked very nicely is'nt condo row part of the projects and why did'nt they buy at the really nice new condo developement way east or up at gentle winds

I LOVE Gone Tropical. I dig around in there and find too many things I can't live without! It's one place my husband doesn't try to hurry me out of--- could it be their * ahem* statues?! 😉

So the Hovensa rumours are true. I know 2 families personally that are leaving at the end of March.

JJs 2nd week at Country Day. So far I feel pretty impressed and JJ is extremely happy.

The in laws made it to STX the 2nd day after their arrival. Their bags took 4 days.

Trw I drop JJ off every morning between 7:30 and 7:45 if you need a ride into town.

Just because two families are leaving?? Do they work for Hovensa or a sub-contractor. Please please, what you are saying is VERY serious, please be sure you are right.

Hovensa is bringing in several new workers & have rooms booked in several hotels around town & the island.
Alot of workers here are contractual, thus many leave when that contracted job is finished. New contract, new workers........

Sorry I wrote that post and went to bed. I asked my friend whose husband is contracted to Hovensa from a company in the states was Hovensa letting go of all the outside contractors and she said yes. They were supposed to be here for another year. They were only given 3 weeks notice. Her husband is pretty high up so I think they are letting go the highest paid. She also told me that they are trying to hold on and not lay off any of Hovensa employees. I will talk to the other family that is leaving and see what they say. We had some other friends who worked for Hovensa that were here for seven years and had no plans of leaving get pulled back to the states. I will ask more detailed questions. If you guys say more contractors are coming in then maybe my friend was incorrect. I don't know?????????

Its sounds more like the nature of that business. Contractors have contractors and have work for a certain period never knowing for 100% if there will be another contract. Most sub contractors contracts end in November or December with Hovensa. And start again in Jan or Feb, which works out well for people with short term rentals but not so much with long term.

There are a lot of rentals on the market right now, which is not the best sign.

Engineers (higher ups) get laid off often too when work gets slow. They tend to move around alot for good money or they take a job for less money if they want more stability. Doesn't sound like anything unusual so far.

I too heard about a big job coming up next year. Last one like that was 2006, so that will be nice.

i saw a map of the island that was done in 1754,and instead of the estate name it had the owners names,so lavallee was owned by william pickering back then, now i have a question for dntw8up,the williams clan in lavalle has been there for centuries,do you think their last name came from pickering's first name?

We went to the Paddys day parade. It wasn't as good as last year. The best part was the local marching band and the ROTC. It became a drunk fest after that so we went shopping for a while. Then it got a little too rowdy for me with a young child. The turning point was when two very drunk young ladies came up to JJ and said while leaning over in his face said, we are very attractive women. What would you like to see? All the while their breast were in his face. I was in a shop at the time and JJ was with hubby and his brother right outside the shop eating icecream. I guess it was a good thing that they, "the two very attractive young women" moved on before I came out of the shop. So we hopped on the little boat and went over to Hotel on the Cay to get away from the crowd. We had a wonderfull time there. We had cornbeef and cabbage. JJ snorkeled, sister in law and I explored the little Cay. Afterwards we went to Chicken Charlies and had pizza. There was a band called "trailer trash with an ocean view". They were surprisingly good. The place was packed and people were dancing to pretty good country western music. A bunch of Harley motorcycles and everyone doing the two step. All in all a good day in paradise.

We skipped the parade, but we did go to Smuggler's last night and heard Finnegan's Wake for the first time. They were really good, but when it comes to Irish music, my heart still belongs to The New Barleycorn.

Parade was definitely not as good as past ones. I know the president of their little board step down, something to do with taxes, so perhaps that was the difference. Loved Ms Judith as Grand Marshal though. Not near enough beads though. Angry Nates did it up right this year, they handed out really nice hats, t-shirts and beads and they were packed all day and evening.

Of coarse its a great time to catch up with old friends that you don't see as often. I asked all my friends that work with Hovensa or its Sub contractors about a lay off. They all told me that Hovensa has laid off some and will lay off more. The subcontractors will most likely have to as well. They figured they would know by the end of this month. They said they are not getting as much oil from Venezuela? I hope its all wrong, but I think we're going to start feeling more of the stateside crunch if this is true.

The parade was a snoozer! Small compared to their past shows.

The drunks soon took over the streets of Christiansted! Falling down drunk before noon is just WRONG!
Spring breakers.........yelling out "no weed, but I have mushrooms for 20 bucks!!!"
Ambulance was called for a mess down on Strand St, staggering drunken fools walking into parked cars.........yup a good day indeed! :-X

someone was passing out mushroom laced chocolate candy at 54 and when most people started tripping they just went home, lol i'm now being followed by santo hookers promising me earthly delights for a small donation and chickens looking for food,oh and i want my next boyfriend to be in his late 30's to late 40's with a job at hess that won't get all jealous and freaked out because the ex and i live together. oh and i heard a certain boat captain got really drunk the other night and went aboard his ex girlfriends boat and grabbed all her stuff and loaded it into his dinghy and was in the process of trying to throw it all in the harbor and the cops grabbed him and he somehow ended up on STT and he plans to sneak back here, grab his boat and head to florida, anyone know the real story on that one i know both of the people in question, but i have'nt seen either of them to ask.

Well Betty I am glad you got the real scoop about what is going on at Hovensa. My friends who work there, their predictions are much more dire. A fifty million dollar cutback.

All this layoff talk is making me very nervous! My husband has been hired by a subcontractor. But they can't seem to get us there fast enough! They want him there now but we are delaying until May. It is sort of the nature of this business though, contracts come and go.

TRW here is the story on the captain. The boat owner caught him, not the police. he did do what you said.. Now he has gone on to STT because that is where his job took him Saturday morning...PM me if you need more info. I talked with him yesterday when he came to get his boat. he will be back one last time this Friday to get that little boat speed boat and take it back to STT. He does not plan on going to Florida. He is trying to get a mooring over in STT.
