Okay, a day in the life of a St. Thomian..... awoke yesterday at my normal time, had my usual two cups of coffee while viewing CNN. At approximately 7:45 I head to the shower, turn on the water and as I'm stepping into the shower Bill informs me that the power went out. This creates a problem as we cannot use water without power because it will mess-up the pump. So I respond as I typically do "You're kidding!" followed by "SHIT". So we promptly call WAPA to find out what is going on and after many attempts the call finally goes thru....they had an explosion at the plant (3rd one in the 2 1/2 yrs I've lived here) and they are projecting power to be restored by 11:30am. Okay, so I call work and say I'll be in as soon as I can shower. Noon-no power WAPA not answering phone, 2:30-no power WAPA not answering phone, 5:00-no power WAPA not answering phone, 5:10-no power, call local AM station and told by snotty announcer that some power had been restored at 4:40 and hoping to get all restored by nightfall, 6pm-no power and night has fallen. Call local convenience store (they have a generator) order a pizza, 6:30 pick-up pizza and bottle of wine. Light many t-lights, eat pizza, drink wine and write poems about life in paradise. In bed by 9pm.....nothing else to do.
Today....a whole new day. Awake at 6am-no power, start obsessing "how will I shat without being able to flush?!" (legit question as shatting happens precisely at 7:30am daily), think to self: I shall shat and urinate in bucket and deliver said bucket to WAPA. 6:45am-power comes on!!!!!! YIIIPPPEEEE 7:15am-arise and find NPR on radio---power on but cable not working; drink hot cup of coffee, 7:30am-shat and FLUSHED, 7:45am-step into shower, 8:00am-step out of shower, hear Bill say "OH SHIT!!!! powers out!" Okay ENUF!!! Happily, I got done what I had to do, Bill is taking care of his personal business at the gym. Schools are closed again today and many businesses shut down. It never ends.

hahahahahaha up finally STT has something STX does not want or need, went to a meeting tonight and then a couple of us went to the bond movie, good big screen action, but i swear to god every teenage girl on STX was there for Twilight and every tween on STX was there for madagascar2,but it was great to see all the families doing a night out thing,my friend figured out a new trick, one stands in line for tickets and the other immediatly goes to the snack line, lol now i'm in my 40's and i have never thought of that one,by the time i had the tickets he had the food and we walked right in and sat watched local commercials for a few and then one preview and the movie started with a bang and now i'm at parrots cove to write this up and listen to mercy child, someone up there gave this guy one of the greatest voices i've heard

just had a bagel sandwich at angry nates and the guy working there was way overwhelmed,i like their b'fast sandwiches better than rum runners,at rumrunners they use the croissant and by the time you add in the grease from croissant, the sausage, the cheese and the eggs, well it's just a plate of grease, geez at the cafe we offer white wheat rye bagel english muffin or a croissant, these 2 places don't give you a choice,oh well just killing time until the noon mtg and then a tday thing at someones house.

well they eat bird eggs, and kill and eat baby anything, they dig in your garbage, the danes were not too terribly smart when they introduced them into the territory, should have left the damn things in india, kill it. or let the dogs out after it.

While I love seeing the mongoose occasionally because I think they're funny looking, be careful if you have any kittens or small puppies around. One of the most disturbing things I saw one time was a mongoose stealing small kittens.

downtown has been dead dead dead today, the streets are pretty clean from last night, the guy came at 5pm today to put in my bathroom hot water heater but has to come back tomorrow to work on the cabinents and then put covers over all the wall sockets, still no fridge or stove, eating out everynight adds up,lol so i'm going to see if they will adjust my rent because of it,now since i file long form on my taxes because of the mortgage can i deduct my health card costs because they are work related,i know you can deduct union dues, because i did that in the states

ur right about that
they were initially brought in to keep down the rodent population.
the thing is....
the mongoose are light seeking creatures and the rodents are primarily nocturnal.
go figure
:S

well got up early and wandered over to rum runners for b'fast, lol they let me put my breakfast sandwich on a bagel to cut down on the grease, but the internet is too slow there, got done with all that read my book for awhile and then contemplated the rest of the day,i just did not want another day of nothingness so i went home to get my phone and some numbers of people from aa, found the numbers but had no time on my phone so i went to the payphone but the number i wanted had a stateside prefix,si i decided to wander the waterfront and look for a sober person with a cell phone that i could use, found 2 right away and explained what i was up too and they said lets call a few people and meet up in cane bay and thats what we did,got there about 10:30 and the place was empty so half of us staked out a great place in the shade and the other half staked out a nice sunny spot on the beach and then we all went back and forth as needed, must have been about 15 of us,the breeze was enough to keep the bugs away, beach was clean, beautiful day,no riff raff wanting money smokes or too sell you drugs, rose's roadkill had her stand set up so we had hotdogs and burgers and then i needed sugar so i went upto the bar and alix gave me leftover cake from thankgiving,i only saw about 20 diversduring the 5 hours we were there and 2 of them were from our group, asa the beach dog was playing nice today and a couple other beach dogs were around looking to play, lol i got to feed the sand crabs, the water was only cold until you went under and then it was fun of course you freeze for about 10 minutes when you get out but the tourists were lovin it,we left at about 3:30 for town and i got to my apt and the guy was there working on stuff,he has to do something complicated with the hot water heater connectors tomorrow because they keep leaking on him, jeez 3 days to figure it out,but i got new faucets in the bathroom and he fixed up all the cabinents,so i wandered down to parrots cove for sliders and the internet, alot of the retailers downtown here said that this jump up was either the best or second best jump up they've ever had as far as sales go,so all in all it was nice to get out of town and back up into my neighborhood, i really miss that beautiful drive along the north shore.
