the only guy I know by name on the radio is Roger, is that who you are referring to?
Yes, he's the one.
THE POSTINGS ABOUT ROGER MORGAN "IN THE MORGAN" ARE MAKING ME LAUGH. I'VE NEVER SEEN THE GUY BUT MY BOYFRIEND LISTENS TO HIM IN THE CAR EVERY MORNING. I USED TO WORK IN RADIO, TALK ABOUT HUGE EGOS.
WORD OF CAUTION REGARDING WAPA .... THE SCOOP IS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN BILLING ERRORS AND YOU MAY NOT OWE AS MUCH AS BILLED. I'LL BE DISPUTING MY STATEMENT THAT I RECEIVED YESTERDAY SHOWING AN INCREASE IN UNITS USED FROM 290 TO 430 IN ONE MONTH. NO WAY CAN THIS BE CORRECT.
HEY TRW .... I'M HEADING BACK TO MPLS NEXT WEEK FOR A FEW DAYS ... I PRAY I DON'T FREEZE!
Roger Morgan has posted here, I believe.
Ok, ya'll....it's been 4 days since anyone has posted on this topic... Where is everyone?????????
My thoughts exactly!!! TRW, where are you?
It hasn't been the same with out his wit & life experiences.....................darn it man find a WiFi !!!
Went to Salud on Monday night to celebrate getting the job I wanted . . . excellent service. Especially considering most restaurants on STX aren't known for their service we had a great experience. Most of the food was really good too - especially that portobello soup - I could live off of that!!!
I awoke this morning just before sun up. My lil dog first begins to nibble at my hand, I pull it away and pull the sheet over my head. She groans and gently nudges the sheet back & starts licking my face. Sleepily I wipe away the dog kisses, and begin the search for where I took off my glasses while she bounces playfully at the door............y'noe the I gotta go dance!! By now the sun is peaking over the horizon sending its warm glow over the Earth. Dark gray clouds begin to change into lovely white puffs w/soft blue high lights. The sea captures the new light of day and transforms into rich blues, greens & turquoise sparkling like gems in a crown. Off in the distance, I can see the islands appear like ghosts on the water. Sugar birds are starting their songs of joy and drinking dewy nectar from the ginger thomas. Butterflies are starting to wake, stretching their tiny wings before taking flight. My dog spots a gecko, giving chase as the gecko takes refuge under a rock.
Together we drink in the beginning of a new day............it's our moment to be thankful. Life is hard and not always easy, but for these brief moments we have no worries for we live in paradise!
just great islandtyme!!! lol the rest of you are just mean, trashing the poor over face lifted radio guy hahahaha, well if you read todays avis you'll know i may or may not have a day job in 2 weeks or so,this is a scary time for small business owners right now and the people they employ,in my own way i pray for a solution there are 5 of us plus the owner that may be out of jobs and 3 of those 5 have been at the cafe since it was the ritz back in the 80's,oh and i found out i'm living in the overdose dead waiter apartment, lol thats always nice to know, the bed you sleep in had a dead waiter in it so i hauled all the couch cushions in and put those on top of the mattresses and then lots of sheets, and i need to find a cheap place downtown for dec 1st and it has to be downtown.
Are you saying the Paradise Cafe is closing?!! (I don't have an Avis handy...)
No say it ain't so!!! Not Paradise Cafe...............home of the caribbean's best grilled cheese & tomotato on rye! I must go morn :-(...........eat my weight in cheese!
Well it's been awhile...we've been busy lately with PTA meetings, campaigning, etc etc...One thing I must say...for all the butting heads, and negativity that comes out of this board..we have met some really great people! That alone is worth the BS and garbage that goes on in some of these threads...ones that I totally ignore now. So to the friends Mel and I have made and hung out with...over and over and over again and there is always room for more friends...
We've been doing the usual Flamboyant on Fridays...drinking Mel's Pain Killer's on Saturday...we went to Buck Island on Sunday...Trivia on Tuesday's at Chicken Charlie's...Hangin out at East end Pizza....watching football with my fellow Brown's brethren since I can't watch Miami games (long story)...and just enjoying St.Croix!
Couldn't see anything on line about what you are referring to. What's up??
After taking trash to the dumpster and moving some furniture and playing with my dog for a bit, I finally had some time to hit Cane Bay Beach with a friend late yesterday afternoon. We got run off by larger than usual swarms of no-see-ums that wouldn't stay out of my eyes and nose. I can wipe them off my arms and legs with the best of them but I do get fed up with them flying up my nose. Decided to cut our time there short and head for some groceries at Plaza West and was delighted to find they had Ting available by the case for the first time in months. Stocked up and came home to make some very yummy chicken caesar salad and watch Survivor.
Wasn't all that interested in the VP Debate. I find I pay less attention to mainland politics the longer I live here. That's probably not a good thing, but it may be a natural evolution.
The power went out just after midnight, prompting a phone call from a new tenant who has been here 4 weeks and still doesn't understand that I don't control WAPA and can't magically turn the lights back on. Fortunately it was only a 15 minute outage. There sure have been a LOT of those lately. At least 4 a week the past month and sometimes twice that. We had one downtown Tuesday night while at Zebo's that was kind of fun as the candles made for a nice ambience. The couple people still waiting for food were less happy about it but they did get fed when the power came back on in 20 minutes or so. Mitch was just happy that he could run people's credit cards as he was going to have to let people leave with a tab and a couple of them were tourists with a big bar tab who might never have come back to pay. I liked the guy who was singing at Parrot's Cove Tuesday night. He was pretty good and the crowd was having fun with him.
Now heading out to pick up keys to show properties late today before having fun in town tonight.
I'm still wondering if Paradise Cafe is closing. Love the wooden booth in the front corner, hot coffee, french toast, and air conditioning! *-) Anyone know what the news is?
Paula
Alexandra,
I am planning on moving down to STX in a couple of months from Minnesota. I just got my Real Estate License in Minnesota, thinking I wanted to live and work up here but realized it is not what I want to do. My question for you is, do I have to get a new real estate license, what kind of classes do you have to take if I do and how is the real estate industry down in STX currently. Any information you can give me would be very helpful.
Cheers
chiber19 - Yes, a new license would be necessary to sell real estate in the USVI. I'll send you a PM with some info on how to get involved in real estate here if that's what you choose to do.
Our market here has slowed down significantly due to the disaster in the mainland market. It's always tough (and expensive!) to get started in real estate anywhere, but now is even harder for new agents to get up and running with fewer sales occurring overall and the buik of those going to the few top agents who have been around a while and are getting referral and repeat business that keeps them afloat until the market recovers. Usually there aren't more than 2-3 new agents starting here each year who manage to stick it out and really make a living. Many try but rapidly find out there is more to being successful in real estate sales than they had ever considered. Most just can't hang on long enough financially to get established if they weren't independently wealthy to start with.
wapa worked out some type of payment plan with the owner but he still does'nt know if he's going to hang on after next week,so as for now we are still open,i'm going to get screened to see if i'm suffering from depression because i can't lift myself out of the funk i'm in and i have to do something, most days i don't want to get out of bed,i work and sleep. I'm working my way through "100 years of sloitude" by Marquez,it's slow going and somewhat hard to read,i like it but it's hard to read, there's a meeting today at 5:30 downtown at deannas restaurant with all of downtown to discuss wapa, don't know what good it'll do,one of the powers that be told me wapa will not get rid of the LEAC,one of the downtown restaurants is going to be busted by a bunch of angry parents for serving 17 year olds shots of booze
There is supposed to be another demonstration at the Gov. House on Friday to protest WAPA.
I sure hope that Paradise Cafe doesn't close. We just found it last trip when Annie and I came in to meet you in person.
Delightful place and great food.
Thanks for the info on the cafe, trw. Glad you're getting help with the depression-- if the dr puts you on a medicine and you don't feel any different (after about a month or two) go back and get a different type med. Look up depression message boards-- lots of people there who know exactly how you're feeling right now and will be glad to let you have a place to 'talk it all out'. Plus, that book sounds too depressing for you right now! Hang in there.(tu)
Paula
It's easy to say get rid of the LEAC, but if WAPA can't pay for fuel now, how can they pay without the LEAC?
TRW, it's normal to be feeling depressed after a break up. However if the feelings are consuming your life, then please check out the clinic.
Just be prepared for the little magic pills they give you not to work immediately. They even may make you feel weird, disconnected or kinna zombie-ish. If you have any substance abuse (drinking;/smoking other than cigs) they will also affect how the anti depressant works.
Theres a whole garden variety of different meds out there, and be careful which one the doctor puts you on. They tend to push the newest & that is generally the MOST expensive! (No generics). Good luck & as the saying goes..............better living thru chemistry...lol.
trw,
Write, write, write! Surely you have a roommate or two tucked away you haven't told us about. Maybe write about some of your regular customers or the street people. You're very good at it (I do wish you would use punctuation!), and it would be great therapy.
Do yoga. I swear it's amazing for lifting the spirits. Any exercise, for that matter.
went to the meeting at deanna's last night, god it was awful,2 places have closed, one is running on generator, the gov is in dc and will be back on friday with a solution or a bandaid, like his spokesman said last night,he inheireted all of these messes from the previous 2 administrations and is doing his best to just "clear the road",the man was not passing the buck at all you could tell by his voice,he did not patronize anyone like the senate does ie"i feel your pain"instead of rich lawyers on the wapa board that can afford their electric bills they should have put some normal people on it.Then i went to a meeting, lol i miss the dogs and chickens that used to wander through at the old meeting house
