well the avis editorial today says to give the guy the money for ongoing dialogue with denmark,ok do they just hand him a check or what,is there an accountability process in there somewhere, who are the other members of accra, does it have officers or a board,is he going to have to turn in receipts for every dime spent, whats to stop him from paying his rent or buying groceries, how come nobody is asking these questions,is he a non profit agency on record? As a taxpayer i have a right to ask these questions and i think since public monies are involved i also have a right to know the answers.

terry, they say they don't want money.

trw, this is what they may be alluding to however it has already been done for a start with the Virgin Islands/Denmark Apprentice Program(VIDA) They have already come a few times and kids from here have gone to Denmark to learn a trade in historic restoration. Talks have been in the making to improve this program as I type. There are other things down the pike I am sure as well.

trw, we don't need anymore homeless people over here thank you! We have our fair chair of stateside homeless some in wheelchairs as well.

Therefore I don't know what more they want. Maybe it is moving too slow?

Troy, I have met many that are here because of past relations. Some family, some slave descendants as well.

It's about way more than the money. They want the deJongh administration to put reparations at the forefront of their relations with the Danish government.

Yes, it is illegal to drive vehicles onto the beach, although enforcement of the law is rare. Still, most people know about turtle nesting and should know better about driving on the beach. Cane Bay doesn't get a lot of turtle nesting but it has occurred in the past. The dive shop should have used the boat ramp for loading equipment. Perhaps next time if you see them you could mention it (in a non-confrontational manner of course!:-)) or go into the store and 'remind' them that they should be more cautious?

Thanks for looking out for the turtles!

I believe there is a boat launching ramp at Cane Bay. The shop uses it to launch their dive boats. I would be surprised if there are many turtles at this beach with all the dogs that people allow to run free on the beach.

well then he does'nt need the 25thousand he's asking for,the paper said today 35 but i thought it was 25 and DL i'm probally saying this wrong ok i'll be upfront about that, there has to be a way to teach school kids about slavery and past injustice without at the same time teaching them to hate, there is a very fine line there don't you agree, now how do you get the social science /history teacher to do that and not introduce hate into the equation,i personally don't hate the british or the germans but it's important to remember what they did to my irish ancestors and the germans to my gay brethren and to make sure it does'nt happen again.

My first Thanksgiving on the island, there was a late season hatching of baby hawksbill turtles right on the Cane Bay Beach while we were at the potluck T'Day dinner at the beachbar. Several people had spotted some hatchlings trying to cross the road and a few were squashed by cars before people rounded them up and helped them to the water. The dogs and heavy use of the beach unfortunately keep the number of viable nests low, but turtles do lay eggs on this beach.

Trw, I will be back on Saturday. Thank goodness. This has been the busiest most hectic trip ever. I caught a terrible cold yesterday and can't hear because my ears are stopped up and I had business meetings yesterday and today. I know everyone is sick and tired of me saying huh or can you repeat that. Today I showed up at work in my capri pants, tank top and flip flops and then popped a beer at lunch all the while excusing myself for blowing my nose. My poor employees have been kowtowing and bending over backwards for this big corporation who wants to "aquire" my company and I decide to be obnoxious. I ended the meeting with telling the corporation to poop or get off the pot. It was a "priceless moment". My operations manager choked on his drink and my pregnant daughter snorted in an effort to control her laughter. Of course I had JJ with me and he kept saying poop or get off the pot over and over. It was great.

if reparations aren't about money then what is it about?
Are they asking for the VI government to ask Africa for reparations for selling the slaves? It was WRONG on all sides and a dark period in history. Had there not been buyers, there would be no sellers, but if there were no sellers there would have been no buyers.

sociologically is was population control, just like anything else you sell off the excess or you have a war(s)(europe) or you have ethnic cleansing and genocide,or you have millions of illegal immigrants pouring over borders everywhere in search of a better life because the countries they are fleeing are overpopulated with limited resources.the solution for the whole damn mess is called birth control (the pill) and education, yes kids are cute but unless the government got you pregnant why should it support you,hey it's kinda harsh but it's my opinion,i said it before it we deported all of our south of the border illegals to the vatican we'd a church approved birth control pill in less than a year.

anyway tammy's letting me borrow her roto tiller when she gets home, does anyone else have a flame thrower or rocket launcher i can borrow,i'm truly sick of the idiots i encounter on the roads that seem to think driving down the middle is acceptable and the ones you meet on your side of the road on a curve just take the cake and need to be dealt with,so just let me know i'll return it fully feuled and ready to go for the next person
