well i was waitering away at work today and some guy in another servers section called me over and asked me if i was TRW from this board and i laughed and said who are you and he told me, he and his wife are here on vacation staying out west and they came to the place i work for breakfast, lol that was kinda cool and then i was asked to stay and work lunch until 3,lol well at 2:30 i was totally in the weeds with way too many tables going at one time and i knew i'd never make it home to hand off the truck to the other half so he could be to work by 4 so i called him and said you're gonna have to hitch to work and suprisingly he just laughed and said yeah my shoes are on already and i was just leaving, so i stayed at work and waitered away some more and just got home in time to eat, watch the news and go to bed so i can be to work at 5am. and this was probally one of the few mothers days i've worked when someone did not get drunk and start picking on their mother so that was cool.oh and where is KLJ we've not heard from her in awhile and how about all you guys out there that live here
A perfect day. Daughter and hubby and JJ took me to brunch on the east end. Home to get ready to go to Caramobla for a birthday party. volleyball on the beach. Hunting crabs with JJ. A swim in the ocean with the girls. The water was perfect. Trw the other half was the bartender. Joan our perfect waitress. Hot tub and pool. Cheeseburgers and beer. A very fun day. Happy Mothers Day to you all.
just back from ag where i bought 65 tomato plants and 65 green bell pepper plants $30.50
Interesting--there's someone new in charge of the greenhouses etc this year....were these the tiny seedlings or the bigger--in a couple inch each plant--plants?
The bypass on STX is looking good. The drainage construction and the erosion control look good. The road to Gallows Bay shouldn't be like a river when it rains. And it's nice to have that bad section of road by Pearl Larson School paved and the drainage fixed. WAPA has a bunch of Alternative energy bids and that's encouraging and one or more could be operational by 2010.
The clean up along the shore near Watergut and Alexander Hamilton is incredible, all the junk cars, boats, shanties are gone and the bush has all been trimmed. Maybe it will be maintained.
Maybe all this will help more people to feel the pride.
sounds like quite a great deal on tomato plants even if they're still very small. Good luck keeping your dogs from trampling them before they get big enough to survive! Have you fenced off the garden area?
Third morning in a row of waking up on the boat, this time in the marina rather than at Buck Island. The tennis players sure start early and are an odd sound to wake up to when we are at Green Cay. There were 40-50 boats out at Buck for Mother's Day. 5 sailboats stayed the night, which is more of a crowd than we usually have on nights we stay out there. Came back ashore Monday morning to show some properties and prep for the Hurricane Hunters to arrive. Had dinner with a few at Cheeseburgers, planned a party for them up at John Ballard's house for Thursday evening, and then went back to the boat for cocktails and some videos. One of the HH guys was picking up on one of the Air Force training instructor women from Keesler who was down on a "Space A hop" and it was pretty funny watching them catch sight of each other and start flirting and then move closer and closer together until they were cuddled up in the corner after a while. They've been based at the same place for several years but never met until they happened to get to STX on different HH planes the same day and I introduced them aboard Parrothead. We'll see how long this one lasts... Ahhh, vacation romance.
It's quite the beautiful day today on the southwest shore of STX. The sun is shining through turquoise water with a hint of white caps here and there. The wind is out of the south and blowing nicely through my windows. I'm watching half a dozen egrets walk around the grass at the top of the bluff above the beach. I'm sure my dog will start asking to go out and chase them any minute now.
50 years old today. 😎
Yesterday afternoon about 30 Haitians were discovered over by Grape Tree on STX. It was crazy with Roto flying around and police vehicles screaming around.
Happy Birthday Tam! It's my second son's 21st birthday today, too, as well as one of my uncle's b-day. Must be something in the water in late August that leads to all this. 😉
My anniversary was yesterday and I managed to slip on the stairs coming down from dinner at Bacchus and wound up with a badly sprained ankle. That's going to make the next few days of outings with the Hurricane Hunters and making dinner for the two Generals and their wives a bit tougher to pull off.
Happy Birthday Tammy!!!
Happy Be-Lated Anniversary Alexandra!!!!
Hi trw and all,
I was the dork that found trw at work. Momabear has wanted to get back there for brunch for a year and a half. It was very good and cost a lot less than the Marriott on STT last year. We're over at Sand Castles and this is the first time on line this week. The sea is pretty rough this morning which is unusual for the west end. Well, I'm off to the beach and into C'sted for Art Thursday tonight.
we had a dolphin join us yesterday as we arrived at Buck Island in the late afternoon. it didn't have its usual companion along and didn't stick around to play, but it was fun to see. We had a few excited passengers hanging over the side. I was pondering jumping in but my phone rang just then and a tenant was having trouble with a cistern pump not working, so I instead spent some time on the phone rounding up a plumber to fix it. It was a beautiful evening on the water and back in the marina. The water was so calm that it was almost like a pond.
Tonight is a big crawfish feast up at John Ballard's house. The Hurricane Hunters flew a couple large ice chests full in late yesterday when General #2 arrived with his new bride. I haven't had crawfish in years other than a few in gumbo. Fortunately I don't have to cook the crawfish this time around. The HH brought 60 pounds of fresh caught shrimp last fall and another air crew brought 80 pounds of Maryland Blue Crab (first time I had ever even seen one) and I had to figure out how to cook it all. Luckily it came out edible. I think tonight I get off fairly easily with making Caesar Salad for 20 or so.
I hope you streamed them with a bunch of old bay. I'm drooling. We used to throw out a few crab pots right off our inlet on the Chesapeake Bay and by dinner time the pots would be full. We also had tons of mussels and oysters growing all over our rock bulkhead so we would have quite a feast. In the last 5 years the mussels and oysters all died out. Knowing this was caused by pollution we quit eating the crabs. So sad.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes.
Happy anniversery Alexandra.
Trade were are you.
Still missing Lizard. I hope you are well.
Trw, I am coming to your house for tomatoes. I managed to rescue a few of mine by cutting them way back. That got white fly while I was in the states so there were only a few when I got back. I want to plant corn but I will probably wait until the fall when we have more rain and cooler weather.
the plants are the seedlings for 10 cents each and they will stay in the potting trays until they are a little bigger and then into pots until they are big enough to be put in the ground, everything goes into the ground in august and i doubt all will survive i expect to end up with about 40 of each so with all the stuff i've started i have to water every day. Happy Happy Tami, morning everyone
We went sailing on the Schooner Roseway yesterday on their final sail for the season. Today or tomorrow they head up north until November when they will return to St. Croix. This was an unbelievable treat for me as I have always dreamed of sailing on a ship like the Roseway. The crew was wonderful and answered any and all questions about the ship and how they came to be part of the crew. We began our trip in Christensted and sailed around the island to Fredricksted just in time for Sunset Jazz.
JJ was the only child on the trip but he was very good. He had on his pirate clothes and with sword in hand. He was completely awed at being aboard a "pirate ship". They let him hoist the Jolly Roger and steer the ship for quite a long time. He also got to help hoist the sails. Quite a job. Everything was done manually. A wonderful adventure for him.
I enjoyed the day so much hubby asked if they had room for me to sail north with them. They said yes. Boy that was a hard decision. I declined with much regret. With only one day until they sailed I couldn't mentally prepare myself to leave JJ. Maybe next time.
that had to have been a treat, i see the boat everyday from work and it's such a beautiful boat from a distance, off to work a wedding thing and then a wedding b'fast in the morning
Start of hopefully a better week than the past one which was hellish. Happy belated birthday, Tammi - it's hell turning 30, isn't it? And Happy Anniversary to Alexandra & many, many more.
We went to Chicken Charlies last night to see a band called Cruzian Time. This was a group of children ages 8 to about 15 and an adult male vocalist. The 11 year old drummer stole my heart. These kids were incredible. They played reggae, rock n roll, and blues. If you ever get a chance to see this group it is well worth it. Very talented.
About an hour into the evening JJ broke a glow stick which splashed up onto his face and all over hubbys shirt. I was watching the band and heard JJ scream like someone had inflicted a mortal wound. I totally freaked out to see glowing stuff coming out of his eyes and mouth. We ran to the bathroom to get the stuff off his face. I am repeating over and over lets go to the hospital. Hubby who knows about such things finally convienced me that it wasn't toxic. When my heart rate went back to normal I sat there thinking I am way too old to raise another child. I don't know how I did it the first time with 5 little stairsteps. Then I heard hubby and daughter laughing about what fun it will be this halloween to put glow stick goo all over JJs hair and spike it. Before we left hubby and daughter had gone to the car to get more glow sticks so she could have some fun later with her coworkers. Maybe I should have sailed with the Roseway after all.
Lord Trade, I wish it was 30. Wait a minute is 50 the new 30?
I hope you have a better week.

I have been a little busy and not had the time to post. I lost my Samson this week and modern medicine can not fill or fix the hole in my Heart. At this point in time, I find it difficult to converse, however I will return when I'M feeling a little better. God Bless!
Awww, Lizard I can't tell you how sorry I am. That's a huge loss for you.
