did she come home yet Tammy?
so the tim takes me over the hill to the cab stand in grove place this morning, cab pulls up and i get in, as i'm getting in i say good morning like i always do and not a word back from anyone, now thats a first for me,i just thought how rude is that, but then again it was grove place
LOL i heard Romi the fish lady from princess carrying on about how we're all going to die of bird flue because of all the chickens yesterday on free speech, did anyone go the uvi last night for the forum on the constitution?
czm meeting tonight about the robins bay project, jeez all the projects that are trying to happen here, will any of them ever start progress or finish,3-4 resort projects, diageo, the bypass, lol maybe i should just go to sleep for 5 years and wake up and see whats transpired,i saw architect drawings for the golden thing today
Precious isn't home yet but daughter is here so we are going to look for her. Daughter thinks that maybe because she hasn't been groomed that maybe someone thought she had been abandoned or that maybe someone up the road got tired of her escaping and running the neighborhood that they took her in. I called the animal shelter and they don't have her. Very sweet people and took all my information.
Hopefully with the economy in the tanker the govt will wake and realize they need to approve some of these projects or their pockets won't get lined.
yeah it's all connected is'nt it we need more hotel rooms so we get more airline flights, more people, more money,it's a big island we have lots of room for everyone and the perfect weather, the pave job they did up in lavallee looks good, maybe next week on a day off i'll pick up the garbage from the drug tree to the store, dunno,it needs to be done the drivers seem to think it's okay to toss the beer bottles on the side of the road,be nice to find out whats going on with the school up here, the senate did approve the money to turn the place into a police substation, but so far nothings been done and we still do not have the mobile unit across from off the wall
Where and what is this project??

WOW trw!! I worked for Romi way back when The Moonraker actually WAS a lounge!! I bartended and my dad sang and played guitar (Del Anduze...anyone remember him?) Romi managed the place and used to "upset" everyone by bringing in her NINE, yes...NINE!! rottweillers who would line up (great training!) at the bar, put their paws up on the bar and got "yum-yums"...in Romi's German accent...(a coaster with whipped cream on it). They never made a mess, never made noise, and always "tipped" their tails before trooping back to their pad. The customers didn't think it was so cute, neither did we...but...who's gonna argue!! Wow! Memories!*-)
Sunshine.. loved the story about Romi's yum yum rotty's. That is a kick. I can just imagine the commotion that would have caused to see those dogs line up for treats... I'll have to ask her about it sometime... sometime when I have a lot of time to listen to her tell me about it. She does love to talk. Her current dog, Tristan , a standard (very large) schnauzer , is an awesome well trained dog. Nice Lady... lots of STX history there.
BTW... Romi is no longer the fish lady... she sold the business a couple of years back and David owns it now. Doing a great job with it too from what I hear.
You guys are delightful...we have some Caribbean experience since we lived for six years on St. Martin and two years in the Bahamas but now the STX lifestyle is in our sights. We just returned from a visit in early April and like what we saw. This topic (and your comments) on the forum makes us want to hurry back...thank you for your insight and for sharing.

Tami.....just wondering....did you find Precious? Hoping there was a happy ending.
so in todays daily news there is a quarter page ad about 3 pages in from the us army corp of engineers looking for 12thousand square feet of office space to rent for 18 months starting in june of this year with parking for 34,now you need to read between the lines on that one the only project that would warrant that many people is the williams and punch marina thing over in f'sted,so that tells me the corp is going to approve the project,i think they would also be involved in the other 2 resort projects as well as the diageo thing, the bypass and the home depot thing, could it finally be happening for us here on the big island?
so i get off work sat at 2:30 and take the 2.50 cab to grove so i can hitch over the beast and get home so i'm walking and hitching and this car with 2 young guys stops for me and tell me for a couple of bucks they'll take me over the hill,i looked at them and the car and thought to myself if i get in this car i'm going to end up as some type of statistic so i said thanks but no thanks and kept on walking,so the next car stops and it's one young guy, same offer so i say ok,he gets me to the corner store and i give him some cash for the ride and thats that, but he was really drunk, driving around with a car that did not have a sticker on the window, lol some days are better than others, today i had to walk from my house for about 2 miles before even one car drove by,but we knew each other and they got me to golden rock so that was nice,i think the road crew is doing a good job of resurfacing our road.and the walk along the cliffs is beautiful with the waves crashing.
trw
do you carry protection when you accept rides from stranger? just curious.
Well, I had a very bizzare day but most of my days are drama filled so I just go with the flow. However, as the day went on it got a little more scary. I picked JJ up from school and as I was stopping to exit out of the school I put my foot on the brake and it went to the floor and the truck did not stop. I yelled holy f ing whatever and told JJ to hold on to his car seat. I stomped the brakes a couple of times and pulled a hard right to try and stay on the road. I am absolutely amazed that we were not Tboned by on comming traffic. I have never pulled out of the school and not had to wait for traffic to clear before I pulled out. I dropped the truck into low, which slowed it a bit but not enough for the curves so I stomped on the emergency brake. That stopped us but there was no where to pull over. I released the brake enough to coast a little until the one love gas station which is a convience store not a place to find help. I sat there for a minute breathing hard. JJ bawling saying why are you mad mommy. I popped the hood and found that I had no break fluid. The store did sell it so I bought some and put it in. I started the truck and pumped the brakes and they were still hitting the floor. I got out and looked under the truck and there was brake fluid everywhere so I guess the brake line broke somewhere. The people at the gas station wanted me to drive the truck across the street because I was blocking the pumps. Really. No way. One very nice young man finally called me a tow truck. $85.00 to Cotton Valley. After 2 phone calls daughter finally answered and came to get us. JJ kept crying and saying we need Daddy to come home. I explained to him that I had delt with far worse without Daddy and he and I could take care of ourselves just fine. I was fine until I got home and was thinking that as a military wife I have been alone alot. 9 months at a time with 5 little ones but I alway had the military network. It made me shake to think how alone I am on this island and I am not young anymore. I did not have one single number stored in my cell phone of someone I could call for help. Made me shake a little. In any case we are fine. I will get under the truck tomorrow and try and see what is broken. We have another car that I hate to drive cause it is a rattle trap but it will do.
With all that being said, I do not know why I stay here and why I love this island so much that I cannot even thing of leaving here. My life in the states is much easier but I cannot bear the thought of leaving.
This afternoon JJ and I harvested our corn. Some of it was not ready but we have something eating all of our vegetables. We have beautiful tomatoes but as soon as they start getting red something is eating it. Big bites. I think it is a big iguana. So this evening we picked corn, tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers. JJ enjoyed learning to shuck corn especially since some of the ears had corn worms. Now we have a new habitat for the worms and some kernels of corn for them to eat. I froze some of the veggies and made a big pot of vegetable soup.
I forgot to say the the rattle trap car had two flat tires when we got home so I showed JJ how to hook them up to the air compresser and pump air into them. He thought that was really cool. I will check all the fluids before we start off to school tomorrow. Wish us luck because Murphys Law is my middle name.
I guess the brake failure sure got your heart started! Glad you didn't get in an accident.
My cat is at Dr. Kanton's for a test run. She has been 86'd from Dr. Hess' for boarding. He'll still treat her, but it was suggested she not board there again! She is a little princess with a big attitude. I'm not sure she will let Hess treat her. She has some really bad memories from a dog attack and subsequent surgery. We are going to be off island for 5 days later in the summer, so we are trying to figure out what to do with her. We thought of a house sitter to take care of the dogs as well, but the cat is super high maintenance. Not sure we want to put that responsibility on someone. We took her in about 8:00 this morning. They haven't called yet to say COME GET HER!!!
dougtamii, glad you kept your head, as i have told my kids from day one ,dont panic , THINK.JJ was in good hands and strong women like you are admired both by men and women . by the way, your never really alone. sometimes it just seems that way
juanita, your cat cant be that bad
Tam...Tho your brakes failed...........thankfully your guardian angel didn't!
the only protection i carry is my really big keychain with a chinese throwing star on it that i found laying in the street downtown a few months back, for the most part the people that pick me up know me,i've hitched this island for years and i know when not to get into a vehicle, never with more than one young guy, even if i know them, because i've worked so many places here i know alot of people,so no worries. so my hunter cat has been bringing me mice and rats all week again, last night she brings in a mouse and drops in at my feet while i'm watching a movie so i petted her and thanked her and all that well, then she starts eyeing the thing and picks it up by its head and drops it and then picks it up again, lol and i thought great this is gonna get messy if she chomps the thing so i slide the coffee table over to the edge of the couch so i don't get splattered by anything if she chomps down,so you know how it is we have to peek so i peeked and there was only half a mouse, lol the butt end,i cring alittle and look again in a couple of minutes and the butt end is gone and then she licks her paws and cleans her face and goes and eats some dog food and has a drink of water and goes back outside, while all of this is going on the other cat is fighting me for the bbq chips i'm eating so i just give up and pour out a pile for her to eat, she's happy and i get to watch the rest of my movie
well i see the delegate from PR has ganged up with all his little PR friends in congress to cause a fuss about the diageo deal, jeez can anyone say "sour grapes" or "cutting off your nose to spite your face" god, grow up
