That's debatable. What do you base your opinion on?

I would wager that meganfrollins is basing his/her opinion of that particular restaurant being the best on St Croix on his/her own experiences and tastes.

Why does everything have to be an argument or a debate on this board?

Just let someone have their opinion. Feel free to provide your own opinion without feeling the need to argue with someone over theirs, especially on something so subjective as to what the best restaurant anywhere may be.

Wonderful reply, TommySTX.

So many posts here and other forums are clearly polite invitations to have an argument. If someone loves a shop or restaurant, why on earth do they have to justify it?!

The challengers seem to have a desire to argue no matter what someone else likes. Anger issues.

forgot to add, a week or so ago we went to Tutto Bene, scraped the bottom of the car with the new over paving on the entry-pizza was excellent as always but if you do not have a truck-maybe go in the exit,it is not as high and you will save your car

I think the problem was with the term "the best". That is a very subjective determination. Even after living on STX for 9 years, I would hesitate to say that about any restaurant. But, for example, I would say that I think LaReine Chicken Shack has the best chicken on island. Or that I like the view from Off The Wall best.

went to You Are Here today for lunch.

Never again. The prices are high for lunch type items.Reuben for 18 bucks. hot dog for 15. Just not worth it. I got a pizza, it tasted like a frozen digiorno pizza. Had that same stale cardboard taste. was not the same crust as the last time we were there. The fish tacos were very tasty but they could not be picked up as they were loaded with liquid.

Last time I went there there was 1 bartender doing bar and tables. No others to help at all. After waiting 15 minutes to get a menu, we left when we realized we weren't getting lunch until dinner.

Why do these businesses shoot themselves in the foot all the time here? We really liked "You Are Here" until last Jump up when we decided to go there and have pizza. We go in and the menu has only about 4 things on it including pizza by the piece and only two toppings. The deck tables were all taken so we were going to set inside until they told us we had to self serve drinks if we sat inside. Oh well, out the door we went with probably $125 and a bad taste in our mouthes. We won't be back!

I'm definitely not a fan of U Are Here. I've eaten there a few times and found the food to be only marginally good but expensive. However, its the service that really sucks. The guy that either owns or manages it shouldn't be in a business were interaction with customers is required. Anytime one of my friends suggest we go there, I talk them out of it.

My wife and I ate at The Sands with friends TWICE this past weekend; Friday night before CCT and Saturday night after drinks at Blue's Backyard BBQ. Both times, the service was excellent. Our server Toni was attentive and prompt taking good care of our drinks and getting our order into the kitchen quickly.

We were in a bit of a hurry Friday night and were very impressed with the speed of the kitchen. Saturday night we were more relaxed and, although we only ordered appetizers, again the service was exceptional. The food both nights was hot and tasty and we thought the pricing was fair relative to the portion size and quality of the food. I give kudos to Executive Chef Mike for the menu choices and look forward to exploring the menu further.

On the negative side, the decor is spartan, devoid of anything interesting to look at other than the ocean and has no real theme. The light fixtures have a distinct Home Depot feel to them. However, I can overlook the lack of ambiance knowing its a start up and will hope the management can give the place some personality as they find their niche.

All in all, a good experience was had and I'll be back. Its exciting to have somewhere new to eat!

Mike is a great chef. I'm glad to see him finally back in the kitchen.

Why do people get upset when they have to self serve? Cracks me up. I've been in food service most of my life. If you walk into a busy place, it happens.

Do you know how next to impossible it is to find competent employees? Heck, even bad employees that actually always show up? Not to mention, it's not that busy these days, so even if you can find staff, how do you afford to keep them around, when most days are slow?

A joint gets busy for a day or two a month and people expect a full staff to help them out? Get over yourselves.

One place I've worked at for a few years, to go from the bar to the tables, you have to go through the kitchen and around the entire building. It also says "place your order at the bar" at the very top of both sides of the menu, yet people walk in and sit and never look at the bar, expecting to be catered to. Who knows? It's a beach bar. People just sit and don't want things sometimes. Just walk ten feet to the bar.

And people wonder why a restaurant fails? I don't. You are Here lost at least $100.00 a week by offering shitty service to our group. But who cares about what we think?

Remind me again how many restaurants have failed at that location?

I'm not trying to defend YAH and was speaking generally. Restaurants don't fail because of not being able to provide top flight service on one of the only busy nights they have all month either.

Jump up, every place is busier than normal. Who do you get to work the over flow?

U Are Here doesn't ever manage well during Jump Ups. It always seems to be a giant clusterf**k and totally unorganized. Interestingly, Rum Runners handles Jump Ups with ease and never misses a beat. We almost always eat at Rum Runners during a Jump Up and are never dissatisfied with the speed, quality of service or price.

How can they do it so well?

Proper management, organization and a well trained staff would be my guess!

We eat there once a week only because the service (and the specials) are always good. In fact, I'm heading out the door soon to eat there again.

The mussels were good (again) last night. I like how they have a different sauce every time we go. The key lime pie was excellent.

My wife and I had dinner last Saturday evening at the Galleon with two other couples. The Galleon has a new owner who owns another restaurant in Tennessee and has brought one of the chef's from there to the Galleon.

Right from the moment we walked in the door, we were impressed! We loved the fresh new decor and the great leather seating in the piano area. The server was very attentive and quick with the beverages. The specials were explained fully and we were given plenty of time to order. The menu has changed a bit but a few of the old favorites are still offered. What struck me most was that the pricing has been significantly reduced!

The Caesar salads were prepared table side for each individual as they were in the past and were excellent. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu which was absolutely delicious as was the blackened Mahi that my wife ordered. Salad, bread, entrees and desserts were good sized portions and fairly priced. Our other guests were equally impressed.

I will admit that I was no fan of the Galleon under the previous ownership and would eat there only if I had to. However, we all loved the new attitude and appreciated seeing familiar faces like Jody Starr and Ned. I'm looking forward to eating at the Galleon again very soon!
