I wish I didn't have to post this, but I had a take-out order from China Jade (the only place with decent hot & sour soup & moo shu chicken).
I got home and was happily eating my food- until I found TWO ROACHES in my moo shu chicken. I had already eaten most of it by that point- so who knows what else was there.
I called them to let them know, and was treated very rudely. I wasn't asking for a refund or anything, since I was already at home. I just wanted to tell them what happened- and they called me a liar. Yes, I could have driven the 25 minutes back to Sunny Isle to prove it, but that would just be silly.
I suppose I'll save my Chinese cravings for when I am visiting the states.
NEVER been that disgusted with my food.
China Jade = roaches.

This is totally disgusting and these kind of things should be reported to the Dept of Health. We only go to Beijing who in my mind has the best Chinese bar none on this island. I'm a hot & sour guy and Beijing's is really good. We have never had a bad meal there -ever. They are located in Sion Farm in the mall area where Air's or Us is located --just West of Plaza East.

Went to Eat @ Cane Bay for dinner on Friday for date night.
It was fantastic. The service was great the food was great. We did the 2 for 1 wine. Nice wine list.
Bart Feller was playing in the background, he is wonderful. It was a very nice evening. Now they have ceiling fans, what a difference.
went to The Palms for breakfast on Sunday, had a lobster, spinach and gouda cheese omelet. Perfect for two people. We split the one omelet, came with potatoes fruit and toast.
Last weekend we went to Angry Nates for their smokes salmon bagel. Price went up two dollars from the previous week. Icky tomatoes and a table full of ants.
We finally got the lobster quesidilla's (sp) at RumRunners a couple of days ago. Now I see what everyone's talking about! Yum. Also had breakfast at Paradise Cafe a couple of times. The french toast with bananas was out of this world. I wonder if those bananas were locally grown? So creamy tasting. Reminded me of bananas I had as a child, not these things you get in the supermarkets in the states that come from 'somewhere' and taste bitter. Anyway, the french toast was wonderful and my hubsband had the Italian sausage, onions and pepper omelet with home style sauteed potatoes and homemade toasted bread that's made there. I'd LOVE that recipe. We usually love Lori's and the Blue Water Terrace, but this trip we have been there during their cut down summer menu, some items which they were out of. We ended up with her chicken salad for lunch (good), and two pieces of her chicken pot pie (just ok, not as good as normal to us) Hate to leave any negative feedback for Lori, since we usually love anything she cooks. We've had a great breakfast and lunches out at The Palms. Love that view, too! We went to Buccaneer for their breakfast buffet one morning, good as usual, and with that great view.
My husband had some problems with his heart while here: he reacts to food with msg in it with an extremely fast racing heart, one time at home we had to rush him to the e.r. because it got out of rhythm, where they inserted a needle into his heart, stopped it and restarted it back into the right rhythm--while he was awake. Very scary experience and didn't want that to happen here! We ate at La Reine Chicken Shack and that night he had a terrible night with the racing heart experience! We're assuming they use msg in their food, as do so many places. So after that experience we haven't been able to eat at all our favorite restaurants on this trip and have to keep it simple and make sure the food we eat either has no msg or is low in it. While talking to the owner at The Palms, she assured us all their food is prepared msg free because her son is sensitive to it. We're really missing eating at Savant.... not sure if they're msg free and it's disguised by so many names some chefs are not aware they are using it. Love the food on St Croix and we're missing our favorite places on this trip... But at least we're on St Croix!
On rereading my last message I realized I had put that the doctors had inserted a needle directly into my husbands heart--- what I meant to say was they gave him an iv that carried medicine that stopped his heart for a few seconds then a second medicine was put into the iv that restarted it in the right rhythm. Totally different from having a needle put right into your heart! Sorry, don't know what I was thinking.
New on STX and overall we are having a great time. Most of the restaurants we have visited have been fair to good. Service tends to be a little slow and we are adjusting to the sticker shock on food prices here. Our worst experience happened yesterday at Spratnet on Cane Bay beach. They advertise a roast pig on Sundays that enticed us to combine a great day at the beach with hopefully a great meal. We have not had a bad beach experience yet, but Spratnet was a huge disappointment. We arrived shortly before noon and asked about the roast pig we had seen on the Island Tour channel. The waitress said it would be ready around three in the afternoon so we settled in for the sun and sand. We ordered hot dogs and fries to tide us over till the pig was ready. Hot dogs and fires are hard to mess up, but they did. The dogs were burnt and the fries were way overdone. Around three the band fired up and we continued to wait for the promised feast. At 4:30, the wife nosed around to see where the roast pig was coming from. The cook didn't even know there was one planned for Sunday. The waitresses were suddenly clueless about where or when the roast pig was coming from. Our patience with slow service and really poor quality food was gone and we gone in search of food. We are sure we will never be back to this beach shack.
Red Driver - It's too bad you had this experience. A weekend earlier you would have been fine. The guy who was doing the cooking 7 days a week finally had reached his breaking point with the owner this past Friday and he "quit"..I don't know who was brought in to cook this past weekend or if the owner was doing the cooking himself. They used to have roast pig every Sunday, it was really good and in general all the food/service was good. But it appears that has all changed for the worse now. We never were a fan of the owner, however for the past several months were going there just because of the new cook in the kitchen. As of last Friday with the cook quitting, we quit also..

Not to pile on, but I have to say that I've never considered Spratnet a place to go to eat. We ate there once, breakfast on the morning of Mardi Croix, and let's just say they even figured out how to mess up scrambled eggs. It's a nice setting for a cold beer, but that's about it in my opinion.
Bernie
Lunch today from Sam Woo or what ever it is now went in the trash--just awful. The chicken was stringy and I question what type of meat the beef and broccoli really was.......last time for that place.
Salad from Lori's yesterday ---$14 for the pear and Maytag bleu; greens were slimy and should never have been served; less than half a sliced pear, a few crumbles of cheese. They should be ashamed.
They were out of bottled water--how the hell does that happen??
Had dinner at Flat Iron grill last night with the kids. The Pizza was good but the place was not being run well, very disappointed. Our waiter who was a local kid of about 18 brought us our Pizza, didn't bring enough plates and then disappeared. He left the other waiter who was also very young to run the whole restaruant which had about 10 tables occupied at the time. He was run ragged. When we left we saw our waiter outside and smelled weed so clearly he went on a "Crucian" smoke break. No one in the place looked to be over the age of 20 and it was sloppy service wise. They got us through the meal ok but they will be out of business if this is representative of their service these days.

No Bones, Bacchus and Tutto Bene continue their run of great food and great service....enjoyed all of them this past week.
Sean, I had the same Flat Iron experience last week. Asked 3 times for water and never got it. Asked for a second beer, never got it. Pizza was good, calzone was mediocre. I won't be back.
Table behind me didn't get one of the entrees they ordered and another table was complaining of bad service also.
Beeski-- I agree and will add Salud to the list
Had another great meal and great service @ No Bones Tuesday night. Their prices are very reasonable as well . When we splurge ($$), our favorite by far is The Bombay Club. Went to BC last Friday where our dinner was excellent. I had the crab/lobster chowder soup, & blackened NY Strip w/ blue cheese while my wife had Chicken Marsala & their famous French Onion Soup..These 2 places are our favorite restaurants as we have never been disappointed with the quality of the food or quality of service.

Had a bad meal there a few weeks ago with numerous mistakes. The staff agreed and didn't charge us.
Went back for pizza the other night and it was swimming in grease. Swimming.
They used to be good! ...something isn't right over there and I hope they fix it soon.
Not exactly restaurant related but I have to share --> went to Kmart Sunny Isle to buy a few items and they were out of bags!!! Son and I had to had carry all our crap out the store. They had just run out so the guard who sometimes checks your bags we even stunned when we showed up trying to hold everything in our hands with a receipt!
...

We ate at Flat Iron for lunch. The pizza was bit greasier than usual and my wife's chicken wrap thing had no taste by her account. Service by the very young waiter was very spotty.
Went to Blue Water Terrace last night for the first time. I had Morrocan crusted Snapper with sides of asparagus and sweet potato gratin. (you can choose your sides from a list of about 8 or 10 choices, which is really nice to be able to do) My friend had a veggie lovers flatbread pizza. For dessert we split a huge brownie with creme de menthe frosting. The food was EXCELLENT and so was the service. Our waiter was one of the best we've had on St . Croix - the right mix of genuine friendliness and professionalism. The sunset and view of Buck Island were beautiful from the terrace dining area, and the restaurant itself is charming with its little country store. Prices are good, too.

Joan!
I am so glad to hear you had a good first time @BWT.
We live nearby, and go pretty often; but as I've said before- the service/selection is REALLY "Hit-or-Miss". But I do love the Snapper. Also, if they have the sweet potato au gratin- get it! It is so fantastic.
Hopefully by shortening the hours for the summer season- they will be able to be focused on providing great food and service. Because when BWT is good; it is REALLY good.
Yum! And they always have great desserts.
i had the snapper last night at BWT also and i was not that thrilled with it. My husband had one of the specials and loved it. the service was great.
I hear there is a new Thai restaurant at five corners next to where can yuan (sp?) seafood chinese restaurant used to be. Has anyone tried it yet?
The name of this place is Asian Caribbean Cusine. It is located just west of 5 corners gas station besides the video store. They have an extensive menu along with sushi & Nigiri sushi. It is kind of pricey, servings are modest to small. They only use organically grown products including meats. Food was very tasty but too pricey for our budget. Nice clean place.

.
The snapper that I had was one of the specials -not the regular snapper on the menu. While the meal lacked greatly in presentation, the fish was moist and flavorful, and the sides were delicious. However, if consistency is an issue at the restaurant that would account for others not being happy with the snapper.
I've been in Texas since Friday.
Have had three restaurant (two fast food) orders wrong/missing items happen to me and the wife.......and its only Monday.
Mistakes are not an exclusive to the VI.
