Been reading this thread and have to make a comment about Chicken Charlie's...they have gone WAY downhill in the past few months. Like the staff, but the food is terrible. Ordered a chef salad($13.50) and chicken nuggets ($7.50) and one hour later they brought out a small bowl of salad with one piece of ham-not sliced, one piece of turkey-not sliced with a hunk of sweaty Cheddar on top. The basket of nuggets-well there were 5 of them-no exaggeration. We sent it back and they brought us a pizza, undercooked-cheese not even close to melted. We knew we were taking a chance but had to send it back to be finished....:-( Finally, 2 hours into it, said screw it, just bring us garlic bread-can"t mess that up right? WRONG!!! BURNT AND BLACK ON TOP!! Finally said forget it, bring me more to drink!! We used to go there regularly, because, again our friends work there, but next time I am bringing a cooler with my own food!! Charlie isn't there-does cook out west on Sunday's and his chicken is great. Just have to say that since his name is on the place!
We like the Pickled Greek-great time and great food!! Peter makes you feel at home.
Bacchus is always excellent-love it!
Really like Divi Pizza, although the wait is long-just be prepared.
Anna's Cafe is good when stopping in Gallow's Bay.
Have had bad experiences at Chenay Bay. 18% gratuity added on for 2 people-I usually always tip 20% plus, but with crappy food and bad service, the 18% really irritated me.
Zebo's-have to agree too pricey for what you get-series mediocre-go to Bacchus!!
Subway is great for cheap, fast and healthy food.
Went to Rowdy Joe's to drink-nice place. friends had the homemade ice cream and raved about it!! Great security on the North Shore!
My husband call me very excited, he heard a advertisement for 19th hole restaurant. He said they have some kind of Italian Buffet Tues, Wed. Anyone been? He goes crazy for a buffet, I hate them because I always eat too much and get sick. But I'll go for him as long as its not scary like H2O lunch buffet.
had a calzone at off the wall yesterday, was good
When I was there in Feb both myself and one of my friends got a slight touch of stomach disorder. My second friend was ok. Food?????
Betty,
What's up with H2O lunch buffet? Did you mean scary just because it's a lot of food? We have a tenant who has been raving about it and suggested we go. We're on our annual "healthy" kick, and she said they have lots of veggies and salad. We're planning to give it a try next time we can get away in the middle of the day for a little R&R.
Betty,
Wednesday is Italian night at the 19th Hole at Carambola Golf Course and it is fantastic! Lori from Lori's Deli has the restaurant and I've had several great experiences there. I wasn't sure about the Italian buffet, but was seriously impressed. There's a great antipasti platter (which I didn't think I'd be interested in), amazing breads, esp. garlic bread, and each of the entrees was excellent. Awesome desserts, too (I think they are extra $). The price for the buffet was reasonable--$20 pp the two times I've been. I've also had lunch there. I loved Lori's famous fried chicken, one order fed my 2 daughters AND me!
Scary because the food is awful. It all looks old, like its been there for many buffets before. The food is very bland and boring. Its a small buffet too. It's exactly the same as before elizabeths moved to h20. I was really shocked because elizabeths was so good when they were over at the corromant. I don't know what name they go by anymore h20 or elizabeths but its bad.
Thanks STXsomeday! Saved me from making burritos tonight. I love them but they are a pain!
I hope you like it Betty! It has been a couple months since I last went. I'll be interested in hearing your review.
Had dinner at Salud last night; it was great as always.
The new menu is a nice change; the beet & mango salad is wonderful. They also have a few new and interesting wines from Italy which we really enjoyed.
Good job Chef Noah.
tried the new thai restaurant downtown. everything was first rate about decor and service, but didn't enjoy the pad thai. when you have a good pad thai, you take another bite because you love the taste. this time i kept taking more bites, just because it was there, and i hoped that the good taste might be in the next bite. for something that they say is a good choice for first timers, they should have it taste better. it wasn't bad, just bland. maybe they forgot the tamarind.
When I had the pad thai I thought it was excellent.
Jim
I loved the Pad Thai when I had it...it was very good and full of flavor.
Are there any places on STX where you can get really good hotdogs? Chicago Style, Chili, etc.
Haven't really seen any. I know that on Thursdays Anna's in Gallows Bay has hot dogs with chili, relish, onions, cheese, mustard...I just get mustard. They just have a small hot dog machine but they are good!
The only restaurant I can think of that sells hot dogs is golden rail. Its big but nothing special. There are several hot dog venders that will be out for this weeks jump up. Selling dogs and brats, but no one has chicago style. This is one of those things you'll probably need to make at home, and then invite lucky friends over to share it with. Thats what I do when I'm craving Mexican. I would kill for a good mexican store. So many things I have to order over the internet. Its all so time consuming I make big batches to last longer.
I have heard that Rosie's Roadkill, the lady with the tow around trailer at Cane Bay on Sat and Sunday is very good. Have not had any myself as I'm not into hot dogs.
Villa Morales just received an 2009 award from the Daily News. I enjoy their menu mostly because of the crusian/ Latin flavors and choices. 3 days per week is hardly enough to serve as many patrons, as it seems always buzzing. Their staff is friendly and provide good service. I find the menu prices very reasonable. JT serves the BEST mojito on island.
About the hot dogs, I was craving one while downtown Christiansted one day, so I stopped at the truck/vendor on the corner across from the fort. The sign said all beef. What I got was a giant vienna sausage. It was mushy and gross. I agree with Betty. Just make them at home. If anyone does know of a good dog, please let us know.
Cheeseburgers does a pretty good hot dog (not "Chicago style" but you can get chili/cheese/onions/relish). Rose (of Rose's roadkill) has really good hot dogs & hot sausage it's just sometimes hard to find her! She is always at the corner of King/Queen Cross at Jump Up - this friday!
I have been considering the happy hour at H2O for some time now, is it worth visiting? A good atmosphere, great cocktails and a smile always helps me to decide on my next drink, before moving on the next watering hole.
I tend to agree with the writers who commented on Angry Nates, my wife & I had a really enjoyable appetizer and Dessert there. The service was ok.
We also had dessert one night at the Palms @ Pelican Cove, slow service, but really good cocktails and sweets.
We visited the Lobster Reef on my wife's b/day in March and boy...........did we have a bad dinner!! The place is filthy, but we at anyway as it was a long drive for us. The steak was over cooked ( took one bite) and the red wine ordered with my meal still has not arrived at the table. I pointed out to my wife that the bartender was on a long smoke break and forgot my red wine. We ask for the bill and left.
We ended up at off the wall for dessert and a beer. Hated the dessert and the bartender was unfriendly......It was time to head home.
Try Rowdy Joes next time you go to north shore nelson, its getting good reviews so far. They also have homemade ice cream there. I always tell people to stay away from lobster reef. I feel the same way about it as I do smugglers reef. It just seems really dirty.
nelsonsp
sounds like you had a really bad night. did you complain to anyone at either places or was it just not worth your time. we dont always complain either. have not been to the lobster reef in a long time. we tried to go there a few weeks ago at about 11:45 in the am but frankie was not up yet so went to off the wall and the waitress was not the most pleasant., not bad, hard to get her to smile but she was by herself and it did get busy.
