That's strange that Lori's chicken would be "just ok" because she was known for it when she was at the location where Good Spirits is now.

I think fried chicken is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. I always thought the chicken was ....ok.

Went to Case Place last night hoping for some of their famous artichoke dip and mushroom, jalapeno, alfredo wonderfulness...only to find out that they changed their whole menu... After realizing that the meno was quite limited, we deided to go elsewhere. Come on...do you really need 3 or 4 different variations of a hot dog on the dinner menu?? I like hot dogs, but seriously. The 2 soda's and and fruit punch and coconut rum came to $12.00...jeez

Yeah, everything is a la carte now which IMO adds up to more $$. And when i went back in there, the artichoke dip was a special - they should have kept that as a regular menu item - it's definitely well liked. .

I went in for lunch just once. I tried the Chicago style chili dog. It was a hot dog with ground beef. no chili. Seriously, they aren't doing well by me with the new menu. I will never go back after spending 17 dollars for that and an iced tea.

As far as I'm concerned Case Place shot themselves in the foot with their new lunch menu. I was in there a few weeks ago with some guys for lunch. We won't be going back, instead opting for our other 2 favorites which is either No Bones Cafe, or Bradys. Case Place lunch menu is now outrageously over priced with the ala carte approach, plus don't like their menu at all vs what it used to be. Our bill for 8 guys was $139 plus tip. Only saving grace is their French Onion Soup.

After Cory's post, it got me to thinking out loud about why we haven't been to Case Place in so long. It was always one of our favorite lunch spots, and for whatever, inexplicable reason, we didn't find the smoke to be an issue. Hubby and I realized, quite happily, that we don't go to the hardware store everyday, like we did for the first couple of years! (For those who don't know, the hardware store is right around the corner from Case Place.) So, now we aren't in the neighborhood at lunchtime. Saving money at the hardware store and on lunch! Win-win!! Since Marlene spent $17 on lunch and Jumbie's group averaged over $17 on lunch, I think we'll probably continue to save our lunch money.

I think the new Case Place menu is 1) hands down not as good as the old and 2) making them a lot of money with this a la carte thing. Wings are .75 cents each, and didn't come with the celery and blue cheese...I guess that would have been extra! At least the salads are the same...but I have noticed a considerable higher bill than we used to have. The a.c. Is nice, but the prices make me want to go home and make a sandwich...probably the better thing...if you are visiting and want a good stateside type hoagie or great salad (try the warm dressing spinach salad) I would recommend it.

Two of us gave Eat @ Canebay another try last week.
I had the open face BBQ brisket. Brisket was nice but the sauce was average.
Daughter had the Turkey Club. Average.
Onion Rings (too few and rather average)
Total with tip: $28.

Three of us ate at Off the Wall the next day for lunch. Total with Tip: $32.
Diane's chicken casserole was good. (Her homecooked specials rock.)
Slice of pizza and a beer with the surf pounding at our feet: priceless.

Is Above the Cliff open? I haven't heard or checked.

There was a sign at the top of the dirt road around mid afternoon today 8/4 that Above The Cliff is open. This is the 1st day that sign has been there.

I really enjoyed my lunch i had at Eat @ Cane Bay. I had the veggie burger, which is homemade. With fresh avocado on top and homemade fries, it was delicious. Truffle aioli is yummy! The staff is really friendly, my mango daquiri was perfect for the hot day. I am sorry others have had such a bad experience there.

I ammend my earlier statement --

Since somebody else had told me the sign was up and Above The Cliff was open -- I ck'd myself this am and the sign is there but it clearly says SOON COME. BTW - nice sign!!

Here's hoping this place can open in August and like Sky's The Limit said -- it would be ahead of the curve.

So far I am a one man operation. There are a couple of people helping out. When the only transportation you have keeps breaking down and going in the shop it really makes for a lot of fun. There are so many things I did and a whole lot I never thought about that it could litterally drive a sane man nuts . But it is the way I have chosen . There are a lot of folks that fuss about the island mentality but the fact of the matter is, no matter where you are at,most of these problems happen routinely on the Continent as well. All that is needed,is 2 appliance regulators and filling the propane tank, which will happen tomorrow. So that is how close I am to completeing the build. How's the words to the song go "what a long strange trip it's been". Drop in if any of you have a chance to. Serving you soon. By the way the credit for the signs go to Barbara Galardi , she really is a great artist.

Kind of like a Waylon Jennings song, Ive always been crazy but it's kept me from going in sane.

Ate at Good Spirits on the East end recently and have to say it was GREAT! They had honey chipotle ribs + a side special for $11 and also a very good buffalo chicken sandwich. Plus $3 frozen margaritas in the Mason canning glass jars. Cute. Nice job.

The Golden Rail is going to have new management. Theresa and Tony have left. Sene is in. She was the bartender there long ago and went to Coconuts after. She has a new menu and will be open at night. She is eager to get started but will probably have a soft opening Friday.

Someone needs to tell Good Spirits to selll Margaritas every day....

Went to Above the Cliff. Realized it is in soft openings and they are still working things out, so take everything with a grain of salt.

Started with apps, Poppers were good, the idea of paying for each was a plus a having app choices under $10 is awesome, the variety obviously wasn't there yet, but what we had was good.

Entrees were prime rib sandwiches and burgers. Both were very good, but on the high side for prices. The prime rib sandwich was $14 I believe with a side of mashed potatoes, Burger is touted as a stuffed burger ($12) and you can add bacon, jalepenos and choice of cheese, etc. The thing that irked me was not that you were charged for extra toppings, but that you were charged extra for cheese. It's called a stuffed burger but if you want it stuffed with cheese, its $14. Burger is massive though, but after adding bacon, jalepenos and cheese it turned into an $18 burger (which bacon was missing from). Entrees came out at different times, but I chalk that up to early restaurant openings as the bartender doubled as the waiter.

Drinks were ordered, no one complained or spoke praises, pretty standard. Finer grater def. needed for nutmeg grater on bushwacker though.

Overall good experience, will be going back when I am around north shore.

The obvious battles facing Above the Cliff is that it is in North Shore and is in direct competition with quite a few restaurants out there. Luckily, it is very different then any of them.

On the island, it will be compared to Good Spirts, the other BBQ place. I am not a huge BBQ lover, but from what I experienced, you get more bang for your buck from Good Spirits. I would love to see Above the Cliff add more sides to entrees but I am guessing that will come when the full menu comes.

Stopped in to Above the Cliff and had the half rack of ribs with both sauces. I'll definitely be back and applaud the new owner for all the work he's done to get this place into shape.

I enjoyed my half-rack of ribs ($23.00). The price was a bit pricey which was disappointing.
When I go out for BBQ, I don't expect to pay steak prices.

Good BBQ sauces, but on the side. I tend to prefer mine cooked into the meat a bit.
IMHO the ribs need to be more "fallin' off the bone" and juicy.
Pineapple in the coleslaw was an unexpected treat.
Potato salad was good but standard. Would like to see it be a little more different/special like the coleslaw.
Looking forward to seeing some bbq sandwiches on the menu.

Wish the bar wasn't blocking the view of the ocean.

Friendly folks and good service.

Mmm-speaking of coleslaw- love it. Avocado Pit across from the Christiansted Fort has the best..with raisins. Nice steak wrap, too

I was there Friday with two youngsters, one of whom cooks for local restaurant. We enjoyed the ribs. Some friends came in right after us and they enjoyed the BBQ too.

Coleslaw with pineapple is my new favorite.

I thought the same thing as others about the prices (a bit high for a picnic-like setting), and agree that the bar blocks a (good?) view. Didn't go up to the bar.

Chris, maybe you can cut down some of the bush to improve the view to the west? Also, and I know you have a TON to do, put up some shades on the west side. The not-quite-setting-yet sun made us move to a shadier table.

Looking forward to the evolution!
