Lalita is a new favorite of mine, really great salads juices and the only place with the cool "new" raw vegetarian cuisine. On an island dominated by stale cuisine, it serves fresh, light and healthy food. It has to be among my favorites. My favorites are Lalita, Dashi, Beachside Cafe, Salud, Vegeria and Uca's(F'sted Veggie lunch),, The Chinese Restaurant at La Reine, Chicken Shack, Lost Dog(Best Pizza), Sunset Grill(best sunset), Paradise Cafe, in no particular order.

Trying to keep on the positive note, I really like the Chinese place in the LaReine shopping center, it's a to go joint so you wanna call ahead 778-1336. China Jade at Sunny Isles is weak and Sam Woo is okay.

While I wish Tavern 1844 the best, I for one can't get excited about yet ANOTHER bar food joint with beer with a view. Given the availability of Guiness draft in bottles and cans with the nitrous charge (yes I know its NOT the same as draft but its pretty damned close) I don't see the Wow factor.

How is Lalita these days? Last time I tried it it reminded me of what 1970's granola ish health food stores food was like in the States, albeit with a lovely courtyard.

The new place where Bongos is won't be a stop for me. It has no view. I do not think it can be kept from being overrun by drugdealers like Bongos was. The only reason I ever went into Bongos was when Darren owned it, I liked him. Maybe if someone tells me it's awesome.

Since I'm negative"B" now, the other bar I hate, hate, hate in C'sted is the Brew Pub, their homemade beers suck, service is atrocious and there is an overwhelmingly bad vibe about the place. If I have to drink in C'sted it's No Bones, they have good bartenders and A/C.

Seriously?: Brew Pub is one of my favorite places for lunch. And always had good service there.

I'll post if I hear anything from Joe if/when taps open up at 1844!

Yuengling is a great PA beer that made its way to DC about 8 years ago or so (first time I saw it was 8 years ago). Good cheaper but not cheap beer.

Speaking of beer. What has happened to all the Miller Lite on island. It has all disappeared.

Last time i had lunch at the brew pub was over two years ago. It took about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Waitress brought us another tables food and then proceeded to argue with us about what we had ordered because "that was what she had written down". To add insult to injury, she then proceeded to bring us the wrong bill. We just laughed, paid, left and won't be going back. Oh yeah, the food was at best mediocre bar food. Rumrunners does a better job and so does Angry Nates. I'm just sayin'

"over two years ago" is an eternity for grading a restaurant, especially down here.

They all seem to go through rough patches, bad servers, and cooks that need firing. I've had bad service and food at the two places you liked. Nates has consistency problems, IMHO. And I do not like the furniture at Rum Runners... "flimsy tiny plastic chairs for keeping tourists from staying too long." Never had bad food or service at Brew Pub, and appreciate the boardwalk chairs I can sit back in and sip my Presidente. Of course, I don't order the lobster there.... just give me the hummus platter or nachos and I'm good. 🙂

I had an awesome dinner at Cultured Pelican. Tuesdays are Ladies Night, and you get 25% off apps and bottles of wine. The fried calamari was delicious and you got a lot of 'em. The mussels in white wine sauce were really yummy too. The bread they bring to your table is great and different than other places- it's in a paper bag and it contained 2 crispy bread sticks and 3 garlic rolls. It came out with a white bean olive oil dipping sauce. Again, yum! dessert was great too. Thursdays they do their 2 for 1 entrees, and they said it gets busy. we were the only table for at least an hour (went at almost 6). The view is gorgeous and the staff was really nice. They're now open for lunch from 11-2. Excited to try that and their Sunday brunch.

YUMMMMMM, sounds wonderful! Thank you, nforbes, that's now on our list of places to go.

Yup, they do Italian right. The island style tira misu is great...coconut and pineapple cream with chocolate sauce. We also tried the brunch and it was very good, lots of options

Ate at Kendricks this weekend for the first time and it was fantastic. Great courtyard ambience and our service was fantastic. I had the duck which was cooked asian style and served with some of the best green beans I've ever had. My wife had the tuna which was also perfect. Total bill with 5 glasses of wine and 1 desert was $132.

We ate at The Palms at Pelican Cove tonight and it was great. They had a Mexican buffet and it was all very good. The service was better than I have ever had there! They are definitely stepping it up. I'll go back again.

Can anyone pass on the message to Good Spirits that they need to liven their food up? I had the chicken tacos tonight and, once again, the chicken was absolutely flavorless. I really want to like and support these guys, as they're a minute from my home, but their food just isn't that good--at least what I've had.

Nice to see Palms stepping it up. My largest annoyance with them is seating at the tables around the bar. Most uncomfortable seats ever. Don't believe me? Try it.

Hey Bernie,

I've eaten there several times and know two people who work there.
Next time you're in, ask them to add seasoning. They've got it there.
Wish they had various salsas you could add (mango salsa is one of my faves)

What's interesting is that their coleslaw used to be spicy hot, but customers complained so they toned it down.

We went to Eat @ Cane Bay last night with our friends who are visiting.
First of all the entertainment was awesome, Mercy Child was doing Pink Floyd as we were sitting down, what a great way to start the night.
I have to say I really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. In an earlier post I said that it needed BBQ sauce and some people on the board told me it was N. Carolina style pork, which I never heard of. Anyway, I got the sandwich and just asked for some BBQ sauce on the side, no problem, it came with a side of the brisket sauce which is amazing. I loved it. My husband had the brisket and it was also delicious. Others had the turkey sand. and the fish which were all excellent. Great service, great food and great entertainment. Oh what a night.
Thanks Eat for a great time.

Neil, thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't aware they had seasoning to add. And I'm with you--it would be great if they had various salsas.

Neil - You have a valid point. Two years is a long time. I guess since I'd been there off and on over the past 8 years (before the two year lahyoff), and their menu hadn't changed, the service hadn't really changed, and the food hadn't gotten any better I just figured eh....why bother. has their menu changed at all?
