STX..recycled plastic lumber?
Has anyone seen this product available on STX? I want to use it outdoors on the top of a railing.....perhaps 2" thick by 8" wide in ten foot lengths. Any and all leads would be appreciated. The pressure treated wood I use now only lasts two or three years before rotting from rain and moisture sitting on it. I did check Home Depot's website and found nothing available but perhaps (maybe) in the store?
Try looking it up as composit decking. I know HD here on the mainland has it.
there is some stuff in here. Not knowing exactly what you are looking for, but it's a start.
I think he may be looking for something similar to Trex decking lumber which is a composite that is supposedly long lasting.
Here's a link. http://www.trex.com/plan/products/decking/index.htm
They carry it at Lowes, No sure about HD.
You may be able to call around to various lumber suppliers or contractors to see if available on your island..
More expensive but worth it from what I have heard.
Last time I looked I could not find it on island and it is so heavy it wasn't worth it for me to ship here. That was about 5-6 years ago. If you find it please let us know!!
In St Thomas you can purchase Trex at MSI. In 1999 I had 100 2x6x16' pieces sent down from Florida to rebuild my boat dock. Shipping weight, 5,000 pounds. in 1999 it was $1.72 per foot in Florida. A couple years ago I checked price at MSI and it was about $4.00 per foot. Going on 14 years and still looks good and works great for a dock application. Someone on Water Island used Trex turned on edge to make a railing around a curved decking. Because Trex has no grain it is sort of "noodlely" so it can be bent to fit a curve.

I believe shipping cost is figured of sq. ft., not weight
Home Depot will order it for you.

Wow 14 years........that's what I had in mind......
Thank you all for your responses. I did some more searching and Home Depot does not have it on island and according to the website they will not ship it to the VI. I'll keep trying at other places..........if anyone has any other leads I'd be happy to know about it.
Thanks again..........Daniel
Amazing (or not) that a product so well suited to our island climate and conditions is not readily available!
If you can't find it locally, you may fare better ordering it yourself than paying a middleman to do so.
Maybe you can get a distributership!
Have you tried all the lumber yards?
if you speak to the special order desk at HD on stx they can order it for you. Don't think they handle Trex, seem to recall they handle Azek.
I had to call MSI on STT, earlier today to see if they had something I was looking for. I asked them if they sell the composit wood product DanielB_STX was looking for as I also hope to redo one of my lower decks after summer/hurricane season is over. They do sell Trex.
Ask for Trent - 776-8800. They ship regularly to STX, I was told. He said you can check out the Trex website for available colors, etc.
1X12 =$56.00, 1 1/2X12 =$75.00 and 2X12 = $96.00 or thereabouts.
Thank you Alana33.................I will certainly look into your lead on STT......I will give Trent a call............
Daniel
Trent was very nice, knowledgable and helpful.
Good Luck.
