I find it amazing how many comments I read on the message board by people who claim they want this island to be better in numerous ways; these same people then post comments on various topics that can influence or impact visitors and residence in negative ways. It is very easy to be a complainer and cast stones but difficult to listen and offer solutions or positive comments. I care a great deal about this place and the people I know here. Positive actions, words, and people is what this island needs. The rest of you can leave.

Well played. If you don't like something, work positively towards a solution. But there's way too much bitching on this board.

Ditto - and where the other islands are concerned too. The negativity gets very old and I seriously wonder why some who endlessly harp on the negatives bother to stay when it seems they'd probably be so much happier elsewhere.

STX has many problems. I tend to agree with most of the negative comments posted on this board. Having said that, I would give just about anything to be able to move back.

This is a great forum for discussing both the positive and negative aspects of life in the Virgin Islands.

I enjoy reading all comments and discussions no matter what side they're on.

i am with vicanuck on this one- i like to hear ALL sides to a story good and bad.

most people who complain, myself included are very frustrated by the high cost of everything-what is the solution-i dont know.

we are also very frustrated by the crime-what can we do about it??

i do like it here, it is nice to be able to go to the beach pretty much any day of the year. the views can't be beat and the people i have met are wonderful and quirky and i love them. i love the cultural differences and i like to learn about the culture here on island.
i love history and visiting the local historical sites-wish i had time to visit more. i love the architecture of both downtowns.

it is not the island most of us don't like-it is the cost of trying to live here

I would love to see you back on island Ric. You are missed by many here. My post has little to do with political or crime complaints and more to do with people posting half truths and rumors that effect business and tourism. I respect your point and understand that venting frustrations can be therapeutic for some, just as reading tabloid smut is entertaining to others.

I moved here in January after visiting and working here for over 6 years. I love my big crazy rock and all of her inhabitants.Something has to give with the crime and rising LEAC. I have been reciveng emails to join the Chamber of Commerce. I may do that so maybe some kind of voice can be heard to address the crime. The LEAC I'll learn to live around but the crime...way out of hand.
But the good outwieghs the bad in my opinion. Boats, Beaches, Bars and Sunsets.

Ric, I thought your weekly visits back to host Trivia Night at the Palms every Monday would have been enough to satisfy your STX urge. I did think that it was remarkable that while you obviously had the reputation and following to justify the Palms paying your commuting costs, you still had the passion for the game to put up with the weekly travel pains. Of course, I guess it is also possible that the calendar on the Lime is not kept up to date. But what is the chance of that - you have been gone for a year now....

half truths and rumors ??? really ? that's a bit of a stretch

these posts are everyday experiences we all live and are a part of here in stx.. and we choose to share these things with everyone else in this forum

whether it be here or the coconut vine..

whether it be positive or negative it is what a person feels is great or could be better

this forum in my opinion has little to do with the overall tourism

check your facts and let us know about the half truths and rumors

Well said Vince....the folks you speak about have no true love for the island or the people of the island.

This thread points out one of the things I really loved about STX, in spite of all her problems. JE and I were neighbors. We visited on occasion. We would sometimes drink a beer together. We dove together. After Linda & I have been gone nearly a year, he thinks enough to notice an out of date ad and tell me about it. The people on STX (of all ilks) are really cool folks. That's what I loved the most. The people. That's what I miss the most. The people.

cruz, so because people tell about the crime the high cost of EVERYTHING means people have no true love for the island.
so the people who live hear should only post the positive and not the negative.
maybe people complain because they would like to see the island they love improve and change for the better. and to have true love for the island means we as a people must turn a blind eye to all of the problems this island many people call home have. if so that will not solve any problems at all pretending that these problems dont exist

As a business owner, I stay here because I can make well above average profit and it is nice and warm.

But once I'm ready to sell out and retire, I'll be gone like the wind.

some may take this comment in jest and think it's funny, but there are folks that actually think this way. Get my EDC benefits for as long as I can, and bounce when I've gotten enough.

my comments apply to natives and transplants alike. As Vince mentioned...it's easy to complain but not offer SOLUTIONS.

Another thing that bites me is when folks compare certain situations to the States, and they are so way off in their comparisons. And that applies to natives and transplants alike.

i agree with you on comparisons, i am sure i have been guilty of this as well. as for solutions i have none, i really really wish i did though.

what are some of your solutions?

My biggest thing is fighting crime and firmly believe that jobs is the solutions. If people aren't working, many will go out and rob to survive.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, we have a huge company like Innovative that has a monopoly and instead of providing jobs to locals they're importing workers from Puerto Rico and wherever else.
