STX Home Depot?
Does anyone no location or date they might start building.
Not too sure about location but heard around April or so!!! This is going to be great! Just hope it's not as screwed up as stt's from the posts here....
Bob
It is going to be west of Sunny Isle on the Melvin Evans Highway. I don't believe they have completed the permitting process yet.
Jim
Location will be on the 4-lane highway just across from the Hovensa Training School. Permitting is still in progress and construction will take a while. I'd be surprised to see them open in 2008 if their permits don't come through by the end of this month.
The Home Depot on STT took FOREVER to open. I think it was 3 years from start of permitting process to grand opening.
I have renamed the home depot here in STT to:::
OUT OF STOCK DEPOT!!!!!!
billd
Perhaps once the STX store is operational the stores on STX and STT can swap inventory back and forth to reduce out of stock items. No big deal to load a truck on the barge and take it from one island to the other. Only requires coperation and planning by the staffs at the two stores.
Jim
Cooperation and planning.....ROFL.....sorry. Based on my experiences, I am not so optimistic:
standing and waiting HOURS for the paint lady at the Home Depot STT to 1) acknowledge my presence 2) take my order 3) fulfill my order (NOT buying paint from Home Depot STT ever again)
waiting and chasing for 6 weeks appliances that showed "in the system" as in the inventory but !SURPRISE! reality check says NO.
Needing 3 simple, no frills light fixtures for kitchen and accepting the fact that I will just buy the ONE they have on the shelf and wait patiently for "years" until/if they restock OR next time, if they have quantity 3 of another type of fixture that will work, buy the 3, replace the now existing 1 with the 3 consistent types and re-use the "1" somewhere else in the house.
And, I could go on with the list but it would take all day.
FYI--
I recently heard something very disturbing about Home Depot appliance sales...at least as far as GE is concerned, they will not cover warranty claims for appliances purchased there because it is not in the continental US.
The issue almost came up for me last year, but I threatened litigation and they (GE Corp.) covered the cost of the service person to come out. When I had to have service on it again (outside of GE warranty but under the Mastercard warranty), the service guy told me there are many people on-island who are being denied warranty service claims during the warranty period.
So, GE Caribbean (in PR) is not servicing appliances purchased here, Home Depot is not covering (beyond 90 days) and GE Corp. will only honor the warranty if threatened with a lawsuit!!
See, things never change much here just as in Don't Stop The Carnival. Now they blame it all on the computer. 🙂
Onika, that doesn't surprise me.
Onika: We had the compressor on a GE fridge blow up after about a year. Evidently ours wasn't the first! Home Depot eventually got GE to pay to replace the compressor, but it took about 4 months. Meanwhile we bought a Frigidaire...
Can you file a class action for us? 😉
When we had a stx condo, the association would buy our replacement appliances wholesale directly from GE in PR. GE covered the warranty on our appliances, and would send repair folks over from PR to work on the items when necessary.
I've heard a rumor that if you but a Sears appliance, they will fly the service person to STX for repairs. Does anyone know if this is true?
K-Mart/Sears now has an appliance store on STX where they sell Kenmore and other brands.
