Good to know about that place, I was going to go in and see what they said about my "white girl-mix" hot mess - insanely curly, completely unmanageable hair. Guess I won't.

All ethnicities have different hair. Like truly different on the way the hair shaft lays, density and direction of follicles. Its pretty interesting. Ive read a lot trying to understand my mess of a mane.. nothing helped so far lol.

Curly, unruly, abundant, and very frizz prone. Takes a very dedicated, skillful and maybe masochistic hairdresser to manage. On the other hand, the charges are so high that a good hair dresser can make a fortune. Mine in DC was netting over 120k per year.

Thanks for your nice response. I do not feel bad at all. I joke w my very Mainland husband that us PR girls are tough. This reaction from the hairdresser was just a shocker. Have lived in the Deep South and never been treated in this manner. Her loss though bc I so value a good hairdresser!! Thanks again.

Get Hakko to iron your hair in the morning before he goes to work!
Low heat, paper between your hair and iron.
My sister has extremely curly hair and used to do that.
On the other hand, mine is so straight that I could leave it in rollers for 2 weeks and 20 minutes later....it might have some body.

Haha!! Ain't nobody got time for dat! When I flat iron it - it takes 3 hours to straighten and lasts about 5 hours here before the humidity make its start to curl again. Completely pointless.

Get a Brazilian blow-out if they still do them.... they work really well and last for a number of months [skips over the part where they're highly toxic]

kind of surprised at the treatment you received at the place in gallows bay. i have seen all types of hair being done and they are always nice.

I believe a Brazilian uses formaldehyde right? I'll look into it but I also remember it's being really really bad on your hair lol. I also worry about anything that only lasts a couple months... that might end up being a week for me with diving so much. I need to find a REALLY GOOD haor stylist to look at my hair and talk to me. I have very unique hair.

AandA2VI, I have used Under The Palms - first salon I went to when I landed from STT, due to its convenience to my house. I went twice - the owner did my hair both times. The first time, I sat in the chair (for color and cut, have ALOT of hair and stubborn grays so it is not a quick process). She then proceeded to talk smack about several other stylists on island. I ignored it, gave her a second chance...she did the same thing. Incredibly unprofessional! I despise when people in an industry bad-mouth others - there is simply no need for that at all! I happened to dislike a particular yoga teacher/bodyworker on STT, however, she was very well liked. I had many people asking about her classes, what I thought, etc. - I made it a point to say that I heard she was a great teacher, I didn't know from my own experience since I had never taken a class (or had bodywork done by her), however, many people enjoyed her classes/sessions and they should give her a try. It's easy and the PROFESSIONAL thing to do!!! So, no I would not recommend her or her salon. M&M, I'm sorry that you had that experience - I would not say that this is common here or on our sister islands...not from what I hear from my Latina/Latino friends anyway.

Pilatesgal, I had a similar experience there. It was awkward, and I never went back.

Same here-- not only did she talk about others in her profession, she also bad mouthed many of her clients.
3 times was my limit!
