STX driving distances from east end?
Okay, I'm starting to look for a lot on STX and curious on how long of a drive would it be from the east end (say cotten valley) to C'std and then to F'std. Also how are the neighborhoods over on the far east end?
Thanks!
You are looking at 15 - 25 minutes from Cramers Park to C'sted and another 40 minutes to F'sted. Depending on time of day, it could take longer.
i live in christiansted and work at the divi, it takes me 15-20 minutes on average. bad weather takes another 10 minutes or so
oh, not bad at all. it takes an hour, in rush hour, to go 8 miles in Chicago!
It's all relative. Many people here seem to hate driving more than 30 minutes for anything. Even if you think now that a longer drive would be fine, you may soon think otherwise after being here.
I put 400 miles on my rental car the first week I visited STX. Now I live mid-island and haven't been to the west end in weeks. The island seems to grow in some ways and shrink in others the longer you've been here.
Ok...Let's put things in perspective. The distances are not long, and the drives are not difficult and let's face it the traffic is (at least on STX) almost never an issue. You can not campare commutes, or even cross island drives, in the Virgin Islands to ANYWHERE in any metro area in the states....We soon forget...
HOWEVER...when you live here a certain mindset makes a drive more than 20 minutes 'a decision to make'..even a reason to go or not go...duh
There are some real traffic issues in the Virgin Islands, but they all have to do with Cruise Ship traffic on St Thomas...that can get real ugly. But once you get away from that, even on StThomas, traffic problems are just a bit annoying. Cruise ship traffic is a total other problem.
On St Croix, unless there is a parade or jump up or other celebration (or sewage spill) I can go anywhere I want within 30 minutes or so almost any time of day. I live on the east end ,I still need to crawl through town. (forever?) .Don't campare usvi traffic problems( except STT cruise traffic) to anything in the states. It is not the same.
We used to wonder at folks who would complain endlessly about the driving on stx...till we started spending more time and then full time on island....and things became just "too far"....we caught the disease!
Interestingly though, I took neighbors from east end to the stx airport and then went home...and a few weeks later took the same neighbors from a relative's house in NY 25 miles to JFK airport, and then drove back..and the NY trip of 50 some miles, on a weekday afternoon into rush hour, took LESS TIME than the rt on stx...
One of the things about driving on stx or any of the islands is your brain can't go on cruise control like stateside. While we don't have traffic like stateside, you never know when someone is going to be walking in the middle of the road, riding a bike, find a goat or a broken down car AND usually around a blind curve. Also other cars here are almost a little too friendly, meaning they will slam on their brakes to let someone in. And of coarse they will slam on their brakes to miss a pot hole or swerve into your lane and expect you to stop to miss a pot hole. The roads themselves can always be a challenge with the curves and conditions and often require you to go slow.
So while we don't have stateside traffic, we have island traffic issues that require patience and caution. No newbie believes they will want to live close to their work and going east or west will be a once or twice a week trip. But after a year they will have got the bug.
Haha, okay sounds no different that Chicago traffic. You always have to be alert for the stupid taxi drive stopping in the middle of the road. Or instead of a goat the occasional crack head.
One of several things we didn't like about living out east in Cotton VS was the distance to everything. Due to layout of homes didn't really get to know neighbors either.
going from c'sted to f'sted is an all day event... i usually pack a lunch and an extra bottle of water just in case....
😎
driving anywhere seems to take twice as long since after all the rain the roads grew pot holes.
