STX-area
Another location question.....
Sion Farm-where is it and is it a decent neighborhood?
Sion farm is located minutes away from sunny isles.
The are is big, so be carefull. There are good parts like in the back towards the hills, but then the main parts are not to good.
What about Strawberry Hill????
anyone familar with this area????
Jenny
Are you looking at the listing for a $119k 3 bed 2 bath with efficiency in Sion Farm?
Strawberry is out in what we have come to call the "Berry area" -- it's right next to Barren Spot. It looks like a nice residential neighborhood, houses seem failry nicely kept, are on the smaller side. I think there is a homeowners association -- remember reading a sign to that effect at the entrance as we pass by. It also mid-island, but to the west of the Sunny Isle shopping area, and is right off Centerline Road/70. The real estate agent we worked with said houses in there tend to sell fast, but since there were none available when we were looking earlier this year we have no real knowledge of anything beyond what you can see by driving through..

Yes, I believe that was the house for sale, I saw.........have you seen it HC????
OH yeah........so strawberry hill would be a "good" place to check out when I come to visit?
Jenny,
Only on the local real estate show. We ended up getting hooked on it when we discovered thast the house we bought was still appearing on this program for at least two months after we moved in! (Thankfully, it has finally been removed.)
The intersting part is that I just got an email from my brother last weekend asking about that same property and area. We've been trying to lure him down here. Talk about timing! We offered to go check it out for him and take pics, but he left on vacation before he could answer.
All I know is what you can see in the MLS listing. I can tell you that from the look, this is located near the front of Sion Farm. There's a lot of those "bunker" style homes on small lots, and is most likely a lower income area compared to the homes that are back in the hills. There is at least one yard in that area off the main entrance to the Estate that has a flock of microchickens running around, but that's not really such an uncommon thing. We can hear a few chickens nearby, and saw a man herding a flock of goats between two homes on the street you drive down to get to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.
It's different down here, if you haven't heard that already. *smile*

Often here property isn't valued by what neighborhood it's in, but by how high up the hill it is and what the views are. It'n not unusual to drive through a very modest, even poor neighborhood on your way up to very expensive homes.
Jenny,
HC brought up the fact that we have wild chickens here. The roosters are damn loud and can wake you up in the middle of the night. Keep your ears open when looking at real estate.
FormerOhioGuy - LOL! We noticed the roosters when we looked at our home, but didn't pay too much attention to them. We both thought they were kind of charming. I still do, but Stu is ready to buy a gun and hunt them down!! They wake him up starting at 4am!
