Stupid campaign trucks with loudspeakers!!!
Another campaign year must have begun in earnest because I just heard a campaign truck pass by with loudspeakers blaring.
How effin stupid are these things?!?
It sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher (but male, and with a Crucian accent) I could hardly understand a freaking thing!
What a waste. How on earth do politicians consider them to to be effective, and do people really vote because of what they heard from a truck?!?!?
Also isn't it too early?! The primaries aren't until August 2 for crying out loud.
Finally I wonder how many who are currently in office (or hold govt jogs), are using government $$ to fund their campaigns?
OK my rant is over.
Since I can't see the trucks from my house it is irritating but anonymous - Unless I can understand who the truck is promoting --- But if I can figure out who is disturbing the neighborhood I cross of that candidate no matter what else I feel about their qualifications -- pretty arbitrary I admit --- but I have mentioned it to a few candidates over the years and they claim absolutely no resposibilty for the trucks, who they have called just enthusiastic supporters.
Always lovely on a Sunday morning.
They drive my dogs CRAZY!
Wins popularity contest about as well as kids cruising down the street with big speakers in their windows.
It mystifies me - and I would really like to know WHY on earth is it so popular here???
I've always wondered the same thing - you can't understand a word they are saying - just some politician jabbering away. They don't seem to realize the people on the street can only make out a few words (if they can make out anything at all) of the speaker's longwinded oration.
They can't possibility it wins them any votes.
Interestingly, I've seen this approach to campaigning on just about all of the 20+ Caribbean islands I've visited.
It's utter nonsense!
There again the nonsense continues once elected.
Completely agree that this form of campaigning is totally useless and counter-productive. Likewise with the melee in front of polling stations on election day. Its hard to believe this is allowed, but hey, this is the VI where nothing makes sense.
Unfortunately they are stuck in the past where there was no true instant Media.
