study away
Hello-I am from the states and moving in a couple months to University of St. Thomas for a semester. I really don't know what to expect? What to pack? Is it safe? Is the school hard? People nice? How expensive of taxis because i will not have a car? Any kind of advice that would help me out!!!!!!!! I am really excited but nervous so please tell me anything about the Island that would help me out!!
taxis are a little over priced, I am also moving to STT, i am moving in Jan. I just got back from a business trip there and i found it to really quite safe, there are a few areas you shouldnt venture too, but overal all there is nothing worry about. People are great as long as you show them curtious respect. good mornings and good afternoons should be used all the time, where are you moving from?
I am from Nebraska and going to college in MO.
Why are you moving to St. Thomas??
Sent you an email
Kelsey: The University of the Virgin Islands, St Thomas campus, is near the airport. If you are going to live on campus, it seems as though the students that have cars act as taxis for the rest... Whether it is a tough school depends on your major. The students have their own social groups and since it is a small school, they seem to know everyone else on campus. Because it is the tropics, bring casual tropical weight clothing...and oh, yeah, the beach is right on campus, so throw in a bathing suit or two! 😉
Hello Kelsey,
I wrote a response to someone who had asked about UVI... do a search - at the top of these post there is a a search option... search for University - but change the date so that its all dates.
What to Pack? Summer wear... shorts, swim trunks, t-shirts, jeans, sneakers, tevas or flip flops, you might bring a couple pairs of khaki long pants and a polo shirt for dressier things you might go to... not too many though unless you plan to work in an office. Work out wear if you like to run, play sports go to the gym ect. Also if you wear glasses or take medications you would want to bring the prescription with you in case you need to fill them while here.
The university is very safe. Hard school - depends on your major - students are pretty serious about their studies - it is not a party school but you can find that if you are looking. Students are nice yes. There are two bus stops by the university so you can use them to get into town... lots of students do. In terms of seeing the island - taxis are pricey... once you make friends then you will be able to do things with them and see more of the island.
