STT windshield
A rock flew up & cracked my windshield below the wipers by the hood with about a 3" crack going up? Do they have any of those places that fill in those without replacing the whole windshield? I've seen it advertised on TV but don't know that anyone's doing it here. Thx.
Never mind. Called the dealer who would have charged about $1300 installed but he recommended Almin & I got a good quote from them (less than 1/3.)
Might also try Glass Rays - he may be able to repair.

I would have but the yellow pages ad doesn't say they do auto. It's already ordered from Almin. Thanks for the info, though.
If the windshield gets replaced, check it with high pressure water at all angles to make sure there are no leaks what soever.
Also, be on the alert if you hit a big bump(pothole) that it doesn`t crack again.
I`m (very) out of the loop on newer cars, but years ago, there were rubber blocks that had to be installed so the glass couldn`t slide down & crack while the (we called it tar rope) set up.
Anyway, i think it`s prudent to checks for leaks no matter how glass installation may have evolved(or not).
Thanks for the info, DUN. What I'm wondering is about the sticker on the windshield now. It needs to be renewed soon so I don't want the hassle of going to BMV. Can they get the sticker off the old windshield somehow?
I had to have my windshield replaced by Almin's and the sticker was quite easy to remove and put on the new windshield.
Great! Thanks, Donna.
The stickers (as I remember them) are made to break into pieces if you were to peel them(kinda like price stickers at a store, there is a cut pattern made to tear in a circle no less).
But if you are careful, you can remove it in 1 piece.
If you mess up, you can put in the pieces & re stick them(like a puzzle).
Yup, the BMV is a hassle, (in STT) I was there 4 hours today, the line was outside the door when I arrived.
They were closed Monday BC of rain, closed Tuesday BC of training, open 1/2 day Wednesday & Thursday(or so I was told on the phone).
I though i`d beat the Friday & end of the month rush today....WRONG!
On the plus side, I was asked to put my high beams on(which was the ONLY thing not perfect on my wifes car) & they passed it anyway, that`s it!
So, if you have the right month & year displayed in the right color, you should be OK!
If you need to renew soon, keep a eye on all those holidays, or you can destroy a day(probably better to call that guy that does it for you).
I would have but, I HAD to be there title transfer).
The crack spread overnight sitting in the driveway. I hope I don't get a nasty cop stopping me before I can get it replaced.
I also found the best day & time to go to the BMV is the first half of the month (except holidays) on a really busy cruise ship day since everyone's at work, around 9:30.
