STT island wide power outage

St. John is out too. Anyone know why? Or does this have to do with the 'rolling blackouts' that I read about on the Source this morning? WAPA Source article

A few of my friends have mentioned that there have been more than one outage this week. Glad I left the generator off before I left.
No sense wasting fuel as tenants don't move in until the 1st.

Then I saw this in STT Source this morning:

What about the .14 cent tax we've all been paying since 2012?

The tax that was supposed to go towards the purchase of new generators?

If you do the math, let's say one person uses 50 gallons a week, x 4 weeks = 200 gallons a month x 12 months = 2400 gallons a year

The .14 tax on 2400 gallons = $336/year x 5 years of the tax = $1680 per person

Multiply $1680 per person x 50,000 drivers across the territory, and you get $84 million dollars!

And the actual figure is probably much higher when you factor in all the tourist driving.

So where has that $84 million + gone??????? Seriously.

Would you point out the mistake?

I could also calculate it this way
50 gallons /week x 52 = 2600 gallons per year
x 5 years = 13,000 gallons x .14 tax = $1820 tax for one person
x 50,000 people = $91 million

Of course not everyone uses 50 gallons in a week so this is just an estimate.

Your assumptions are too generous.

You are assuming 50 gal per week per car. That is huge for the small island. I drive every day to work, marina, shopping, HD etc and average 15 gal a month.

You assume 50,000 cars doing that kind of mileage. We only have population of 100K. Let's say 25,000 families. One car per household.

Decide your projections by the factor of 10 and you will be in the ball park.

I know lots of people who fill up every week, and some people drive between Fsted and Csted every day. Plus some older vehicles have fuel issues and use more fuel than newer cars.

Then there are lots of rental cars on the road, and heavy machinery, and some families have two or more cars.

I think the actual figure is somewhere in between what you say and what I calculated.

I read this over again and STTsailor is right and I am wrong. Make that 50 gallons a month not a week.

i can only shake my head at the utter cluelessness, carelessness and woeful ignorance at this administration and past administrations. they have only and will only have their own best interests at heart. they dont care about any one person besides themselves and how much money they can make.

I'm amazed by how inexpensive things are here, compared to what we pay in the islands. Seriously!

I do miss our gorgeous views and haven't quite gotten used to central heating and air systems and not having the windows open all the time but loving smooth, clean roads, reliable, affordable electricity, having my mail and packages delivered to my home and not giving my garbage a scenic tour before disposal. Proximity of family is great. 10 minutes away.
I get my car next week and will then face the anxiety of driving on the right hand side of the road, for the 1st time, ever.

Hershey has adapted well, loves her large back yard but not overly fond of the pool guy and is quite vocal about any visitation. Good guard dog!

What's worse is that they stick their heads in the sand, instead of acknowledging the problems, buckling down and cutting the waste from their government spending and their overly paid salaries and sticking it to the people with increasing taxes and rates.

I can't say I'm optimistic that will change.
I think it will get worse. I doubt the new trump administration will be helpful to the VI. Mapp's State of CONFUSION address was neither encouraging nor based on reality.
