STT car chase

What a great clip! I came 14 years after that was filmed here but it's pretty amazing how much in town remains the same. I got quite nostalgic seeing all the VW bugs - that was my first car here and there were loads around then but not any more. Thanks SO much for sharing!

Everyone? When I came in '84 there were all sorts of cars here. Must have been pretty strange prior to that seeing just VWs everywhere. Seemed to be a lot of different cars in that movie clip from '70 but maybe they were just props? Veeeery interesting!

Lots of VW's for sure but in that clip I also saw some very different vehicles - Renault Dauphine, 55 Packard, Cadillac convertible, Porsche 911, a few Volvos, BMW 1600 and lots of big American sedans.
Certainly the VW bug was the most popular choice here for a long time in the 60's and 70's - getting a car fixed back then having a VW made the most sense - trying to find parts for other cars often meant a lot of long distance phone calls from the ITT office on Main St. and a long wait at the only PO in town - but there were some very exotic cars here over the years.

Volkswagen was very popular here in the islands prior to your arrival in the 80's
as Exit Zero mentions. There were, of course, other vehicles on the roads.

Can pick up many areas of Stt during the chase, but more focused on the cars diring the first watch.

The Mustang reminds me of my uncle's, color and all.
Many VWs bugs remind me of my cousin's.

You wouldn't think so according to the VI Nice commercial they keep playing over and over with a dozen or so old bugs of every color in it. Must be a Bug Club rally.

Must have been a mini meeting of the bug club late afternoon in Home Depot parking lot. Lots of bugs and dune buggies.
